"An Ipsos poll published in June and commissioned by the Earth4All non-profit and Global Commons Alliance found that 41% of Americans believe “having a strong leader who does not have to bother with parliament and elections” is a very good or fairly good way to govern. Some younger people and higher earners in particular showed support for that sentiment, according to the poll, said Owen Gaffney, co-leader of Earth4All." That's right: our recent polling shows that while 80% of Americans believe democracy is a good way to run a country, a surprising number of people also support more authoritarian leadership approaches. Rising inequality is fuelling social tensions, creating conditions that put our democracies in danger: it’s time to rebuild public trust and implement bold policies for fairer societies and stronger democracies. We are delighted to welcome 贲圣林 Ben Shenglin as an associate member of The Club of Rome. Ben is Professor and Dean at Zhejiang University International Business School (ZIBS)浙江大学国际联合商学院 and President, Beijing Frontier Institute of Regulation and Supervision Technology (FIRST). Prior to his time at Zhejiang University (since 2014), he spent 20 years in China and abroad with ABN AMRO, HSBC, and lastly JP Morgan Chase, where he served as China CEO, JP Morgan Chase Bank. He lends his expertise in international finance, digital economy and global business to several institutions. This includes his role as founder and Director of International Monetary Institute, Renmin University of China, founder and Chairman, Zhejiang FinTech Association, and board director of leading companies such as CICC, Tsingtao Brewery, China Construction Bank and China Industrial Bank. Respect across ideas and opinions is the prerequisite to creating healthy intergenerational leadership and learning, says Modester Lynn, Youth Coordinator at Kenya Climate Change Working Group. Wouter van Dieren is one of the early members of The Club of Rome and when he came across the team working on the first report to the organisation, The Limits to Growth, he was awed by its revolutionary nature. This was the first publication of its kind, a global comprehensive systems analysis which factored in economics, pollution, population, food and materials. He shares how he became involved with promoting the report globally.
