Earth4All is a global collective of scientists, economists, communicators, advocates, with the will to act. The dominant economic thinking and its underlying model are destabilising societies. And the planet. It is time for a change. Earth4All has identified five extraordinary turnarounds needed to create wellbeing for all on a (relatively) stable planet. This analysis combines the best available science with new economic thinking. Five turnarounds to rethink capitalism, move beyond GDP, and bring our societies on a safe pathway to wellbeing for all. We are ready to break with the past, old ideas, and imagine another world. Get involved via https://www.earth4all.life/ !

"An Ipsos poll published in June and commissioned by the Earth4All non-profit and Global Commons Alliance found that 41% of Americans believe “having a strong leader who does not have to bother with parliament and elections” is a very good or fairly good way to govern. Some younger people and higher earners in particular showed support for that sentiment, according to the poll, said Owen Gaffney, co-leader of Earth4All." That's right: our recent polling shows that while 80% of Americans believe democracy is a good way to run a country, a surprising number of people also support more authoritarian leadership approaches. Rising inequality is fuelling social tensions, creating conditions that put our democracies in danger: it’s time to rebuild public trust and implement bold policies for fairer societies and stronger democracies. How do people think their countries should be governed? Explore the full results of our survey ⏩ https://lnkd.in/ggfP8E8Q https://lnkd.in/dPs3Rrj6

The arguments supporting a tax on the super-rich are more compelling than ever, says Mogens Lykketoft in a new op-ed for Reuters in the wake of the G20 finance ministers' joint declaration on international tax cooperation. A fairer tax system could help reverse decades of rising inequality and create more stable societies, as well as boost the public spending needed to avert the climate crisis. Now that ministers have taken the first step in Rio de Janeiro, it's time for for a democratic and inclusive process for setting a new global standard for taxing the super-rich, argues Lykketoft. There may be challenges ahead, but our economies, democracies, and the planet depend on it. Read the article ⏩ https://lnkd.in/dv7Pvdv6

📢 A new survey of G20* citizens during the biggest election year in history, shows people want the economy to prioritize the health and wellbeing of people and nature – not just increase profits and wealth. 👇 The Earth for All 2024 Survey conducted by Ipsos and commissioned by Earth4All and Global Commons Alliance reflects widespread public concern on inequality and climate action, and backing for tax reforms and broader political and economic reform. *Across the 17 G20 countries surveyed for policies that put people and planet first, here are the results at a glance: 🗳️ People want political and economic reform: just 37% of those surveyed trust the government to make long-term decisions for the majority of people and a strong majority believe inequality is a big problem in their country and beyond. 68% of those surveyed believe that the way the economy works should prioritize the health and wellbeing of people and nature – not just increase profits and wealth. ⚖️ Tax the rich: there is strong support for progressive taxation as a means of funding major changes to the economy and lifestyles. Around two-thirds (68%) of respondents back a wealth tax, while 70% support higher income taxes for high earners, and 69% favor increased corporation tax for big businesses. 🌎 It’s time for a Giant Leap: 71% in surveyed countries believe that the world needs to take immediate action, within the next decade, to reduce carbon emissions. Only a small minority believe slower, delayed action is required. Learn more and explore the results in full: https://lnkd.in/dS89YTKE #SafeAndJust #GlobalCommons #PlanetaryEmergency #Earth4All

When is your country's 'overshoot day'? 🌎 Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services exceeds what the Earth can regenerate that year. 📅 On 1 August 2024, we will hit the mark for the year. That means that in just 7 months, humanity has used what Earth takes 12 months to regenerate. But we can make changes to #MoveTheDate by reducing our demand on our planet.
