Happy Pride Month! At Ascend, we believe in the power of diversity and the strength that comes with embracing every aspect of our authentic selves. This month, we celebrate the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and reaffirm our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for all. As June comes to an end, we encourage continued learning, celebration and allyship. Here is a quote from Ascend Vancouver alumni, Kenny Koon on what it means to be an ally: "Being an ally is not just about going to some courses and checking it off the list. If you want to be an ally, be curious and don’t be afraid to ask questions and learn." May is Asian Heritage Month! At Ascend Canada and Vancouver, we proudly unite with our pan-Asian community in championing equity and inclusivity. Together, we aim to nurture an environment where diverse voices are heard in corporate Canada. The theme this year is "Preserving the Past, Embracing the Future: Amplifying Asian Canadian Legacy". Let us celebrate one of our own volunteers/officers from the Toronto chapter. Read Margarita de Guzman's story below. #AsianHeritageMonth #AscendCanada #AscendVancouver
May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada and AAPI Month in the United States. It is an opportunity to celebrate the diverse contributions of Pan-Asians across all areas and all walks of life. In Canada, this year's theme is "Preserving the Past, Embracing the Future: Amplifying Asian Canadian Legacy". My story is one of many stories that celebrate and honour my Filipino heritage which I am privileged to tell. Most importantly for me, it is also a tribute to my parents who made the decision 26 years ago to bring our family to Canada. Thank you TD for shining a spotlight on the Filipino community for this year's AHM campaign. Special thanks to the team that brought my story to life: Eunice Chen-Promotorov Sandy Avvari Nayani Laura Hensley Hailey Boccone Moses Monterroza. Cc: Ascend Canada https://lnkd.in/gQ3QTxwa

Last month, #AscendVancouver and Asians at Microsoft collaborated to host an engaging panel event that left attendees buzzing with insights! Our esteemed panelists delved into the significance of organizational self-reflection, the democratization of AI, and the powerful reminder that the product is called "Co-Pilot", not "Auto-Pilot". AI is designed to enhance our quality of life by unburdening humans with administrative and repetitive work. The discussions around AI were thought-provoking, highlighting its potential to disrupt traditional job roles while also opening doors to new opportunities. From exploring ethical AI considerations to offering practical strategies for workforce evolution, our panelists Megan Curpen (National Channel Sales Manager, Microsoft), Kevin W. Lee (Assistant Professor, UBC), and Swathi Raikwar (Solutions Design Consultant, VoPay) shared actionable insights that resonated deeply with the audience. Our panel moderator, Rasmeet Mohar shared her expertise as a corporate lawyer to elevate the conversation and delve into Responsible AI practices. The timeliness of these discussions is crucial, as AI continues to integrate into our professional environments. Witnessing firsthand the multifaceted applications of AI across industries and its impact on job evolution was truly enlightening. Thank you to Microsoft for co-hosting with Ascend!
