We know critical minerals present British Columbians with a generational opportunity, but can we move fast enough to reap the benefits? Can we reduce long development timelines to help meet net-zero targets? MABC’s President and CEO, Michael Goehring was given the opportunity to share his thoughts on the future of BC’s mining sector as part of PwC Canada’s latest BC Mine Report. According to Goehring, “decisive action and execution are required to make sure Canada is positioned as a leading global supplier of critical minerals where new projects have a timely and predictable pathway to development.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ghyAsqrH #CriticalMinerals #BCMining #bcpoli

A recent rescue by Newmont Corporation’s Brucejack mine rescue team is testament to the fact that mine rescuers are the heart and soul of BC’s mining industry and neighbouring communities. Well done to the mine rescue and first aid team at Brucejack Mine as well as a Procon Mining and Tunnelling Ltd. (‘Procon’) employee who recently rescued a Japanese diplomat from a cycling incident. The team’s quick-thinking, skills and aptitude all came into play during the rescue. Senior Safety Advisor of Brucejack, Travis Beebe said, "I firmly believe that without the support of John Sheehan and other members of management, who facilitated the use of Newmont’s resources such as the chopper, medical personnel, clinic, and more, as well as the initial critical interventions and subsequent actions, this story would have had a vastly different outcome." The Brucejack mine rescue team recently took part in the 66th annual BC Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition held at BRITANNIA MINE MUSEUM where they won five awards including the Keith Bracewell Memorial Award for Best Obstacle and Recovery and Sullivan Cup for Best First Aid by an Underground Team. Tomorrow marks International Day for Women in Mining (IDWIM) - a day to celebrate the achievements of women and raise awareness of the need for gender equality in the mining sector. Mining companies in BC are working to reduce the gender divide in mining. We’re striving to create an environment that’s respectful - and reflective - of the diversity of the communities around us. For example, a key priority for Teck Resources Limited includes improving the representation of underrepresented groups including, but not limited to, women, while Taseko Mines Limited is focused on actively encouraging women to pursue careers in mining by ensuring their work environment is inclusive and improving retention rates for female employees. Together we can achieve greater equity and inclusivity in the board room, head office and at site. #IDWIM2024 #womeninmining
Tomorrow, June 15th, is International Day of Women in Mining. Let’s celebrate and honour the incredible contributions of women in the mining industry in British Columbia and worldwide.
