Our primary ingredient? The versatile Angico plant. Native to South America and thriving in five Brazilian biomes —Amazonia, Caatinga, Cerrado, Mata Atlântica, and Pampa — Angico is a true ecological powerhouse. Its rapid growth and high CO2 fixation capacity make it ideal for reforestation projects, particularly in degraded lands and forest recovery. Here’s why Angico stands out: 🌱 Pioneer Species: Due to its rapid growth and adaptability, Angico is used to initiate tree planting, making it perfect for forest recovery projects. 🌍 CO2 Fixation: Among the 14 native species used in forest recovery, four are Angico, known for their high carbon capture. A fast-growing Angico can store about 450 kg of carbon, significantly more than slower-growing species. By utilizing the Angico plant, we are pioneering a path to create alternatives to traditional animal leather and conventional plastics. As we continue to innovate and develop cleaner bio-materials (seriously, you have to check out our plant-based alternative to leather!), we’ve experienced some remarkable moments that we’re excited to share: 🌟 Kicking Off with Impact: We started the month strong with our Co-founder and CTO, Marina Belintani, participating as a guest in an insightful workshop at Impact Hub São Paulo, organized by Climate-KIC and GIZ Brasil. The discussion centered around what lies ahead in the field of climate innovation—truly inspiring and thought-provoking! 🎤 Spotlight on Innovation: Our CEO and Co-founder, Rachel Maranhao, represented Mabe Bio at two amazing events: DemoDay at Insper Instituto de Ensino e Pesquisa: Rachel joined a small group of selected innovators, showcasing our groundbreaking work. A big thank you to Filipi Tieppo Barbaro, MSc. Exciting News from Mabe Bio! 🌱💰 We're thrilled to announce we Mabe Bio secured an extension of its pre-seed round with institutional investors Anjos do Brasil and Sororitê, along with angel investor Isabella Prata. This brings our total raised to R$ 1 million. We plan to use the funds to expand the production capacity of our first product, a leather alternative made from the angico plant.
