Reflecting on the recent negotiations for the Global Plastics Treaty, the progress leaves us cautiously optimistic. As Chair Gustavo Adolfo Meza-Cuadra Velasquez rightly pointed out, much work remains to be done in narrowing down differences and developing technical insights. The journey toward a Circular Economy demands more than rhetoric; it requires tangible action. Consider the 2023 CPNL grant, open for applications until January 11, offering an innovation boost of €47.2 million for circular plastics. This initiative is inviting entrepreneurs and researchers to contribute ground-breaking solutions, addressing bottlenecks to achieve high-performance recycling of plastics. It's time to turn conversations into concrete actions, fostering a sustainable future. Let's not just talk the talk but walk the path of meaningful change. #plasticstreaty #circulareconomy #sustainablefuture

PET stands for **Polyethylene Terephthalate**, a type of plastic commonly used in packaging, such as bottles and containers. It is valued for its strength, thermo-stability, and transparency. PET is widely used for single-use and reusable containers due to its safety and recyclability. This material is highly recyclable, and biorecycling processes aim to convert PET waste back into raw materials for new products, reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainability. #Carbios has launched the world's first PET biorecycling plant in Longlaville, France, with the capacity to process 50,000 tons annually using innovative enzymatic processes. This pioneering technology enables the recycling of previously non-recyclable PET waste, like multi-layer trays and polyester textiles. Supported by the French government, this project exemplifies France's commitment to environmental transition and innovation, promising significant economic and ecological benefits. ### Examples of Similar Initiatives: - **Loop Industries**: Developing technology for recycling PET plastics and polyester fiber. - **Eastman Chemical**: Investing in molecular recycling technologies for plastics. 🌍🌿 #Biorecycling #GreenInnovation #SustainableFuture #PlasticRecycling #CircularEconomy #EcoFriendly #France2030 #EnvironmentalLeadership ### Can Producing PET Plastic Reduce Climate Impact? Producing PET plastic with innovative biorecycling methods can significantly reduce environmental impact by: - **Lowering Carbon Footprint** 🌍: Recycling PET reduces the need for virgin plastic production, which is energy-intensive. - **Waste Reduction** ♻️: Converts non-recyclable waste into reusable materials, decreasing landfill use. - **Resource Efficiency** 🔄: Promotes circular economy principles by reusing existing materials. #ClimateAction #SustainableFuture #PETRecycling #CircularEconomy #EcoFriendly 🌿♻️ For more details, visit the full article on [Plastico](https://lnkd.in/eSMqJ7J3).

At Circular Plastics NL, we are committed to leading the way towards a more circular economy. Today, on Global Recycling Day, while we emphasize the importance of recycling, let's also acknowledge the sobering truth: "We cannot recycle our way out of this." ♻️🛑 While recycling is crucial in mitigating environmental damage, it's only part of the solution. To truly make a difference, we must globally reduce the consumption of cheap plastics that are produced and designed without responsible considerations for Design for Recycling (DfR) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Additionally, we need to rethink our approach to waste management, focusing on optimizing the collection and sorting of plastics to improve recycling quality. CPNL program manager Jan Willem Slijkoord wrote a blog post - https://lnkd.in/eb4cVtcY - about the myth of plastics recycling. Following a Dutch legal dispute between VU students and Colgate-Palmolive over 'greenwashing' claims, he highlights the complexities of plastic recycling. While the ruling by Stichting Reclame Code, the SRC committee exposes the misleading nature of CP's claims, it also underscores broader challenges in the recycling industry. Despite the potential recyclability of items like Ajax bottles, the current recycling rates from mixed post-consumer plastic waste remain low, indicating significant room for improvement in waste collection, sorting, and recycling processes. Achieving an integrated approach to plastic recycling requires enhanced efforts in DfR, advanced sorting techniques, and enhancements in collecting schemes, alongside increased investment in innovative recycling technologies. Moreover, stringent verification processes are essential for ensuring accurate claims regarding recycled content in products. Ultimately, addressing these challenges will be crucial in advancing towards a more sustainable and circular economy. To access the long read and more articles and research on plastics recycling and systemic change, our knowledge page on the CPNL website collects much that matters: https://lnkd.in/gKQhUVgu 🌍 #WorldRecyclingDay #CircularEconomy #DoNotWastePlasticWaste #ReduceReuseRecycle ♻️
