📣 The Solar Diversity Champion Award applications are open! We expect the solar sector to supply at least 1.2 million jobs in 2027. 🤯 This means it is crucial to ensure that Diversity, Equity and Inclusion practices are integrated into the workforce, and while #solar☀️ has been the most gender-balanced renewable energy technology, there is still much more work to be done to improve gender equality and diversity more widely, at all levels of an organisation. The Award aims to recognise organisations within the European solar sector who have demonstrated commitment and success in creating diverse, inclusive work environments. 🤝 Through this initiative we hope to increase visibility and encourage more companies to prioritise Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the workplace, leading to a stronger and more innovative solar industry. 🫶 Discover more and submit your application now 👇  https://lnkd.in/df3T6BC6 #SolarWorks

🆕 European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has been re-elected by the European Parliament. SolarPower Europe CEO, Walburga Hemetsberger said: "President von der Leyen’s re-election offers a welcome stability for Europe, recognising her critical role in guiding the continent through the wave of crises in recent years.    The President’s speech in plenary confirms that delivering the Green Deal remains a priority under the new Commission mandate, with a focus on implementation and investment. This is good news for Europe and for the energy transition." The new Political Guidelines of the President propose an EU Clean Industrial Deal 👏. This reflects our joint call in June of 550+ organisations from across society and the economy, reminding leaders that green competitiveness is the launchpad 🚀 to sustainable growth. Our modelling shows that renewables and flexible electrification will reduce energy costs 📉 by 25% in 2030 & 33% by 2040, structurally shielding European industry from fossil fuel volatility. To deliver on the EU Clean Industrial Deal, we urge President von der Leyen to acknowledge the need for Europe to rapidly accelerate ⏩ its energy flexibility & electrification plans. It's Strasbourg week! ☀ SolarPower Europe have landed in Strasbourg for the first plenary session of the new EU mandate. This week our team are meeting with new and returning MEPs to talk all things #solar. Our message is clear: solar is booming, offering Europe a future of prosperity and energy security. But there is no time for complacency. Let's get to work implementing key legislation to accelerate the energy transition. ⏩ For the next EU mandate we hope to see a strong focus on improving grid flexibility and reshoring a robust solar manufacturing base to Europe. Our Deputy CEO, Dries Acke, attended the European Energy Forum General Assembley, witnessing the hand-over from MEP Jerzy Buzek to MEP Tsvetelina Penkova as President of the Forum. At the Gala Dinner, Dries spoke about the importance of industrial electrification for EU competitiveness. Along with our Senior Policy Advisor, Jonathan Bonadio, they met with several newly elected MEPs including Wouter Beke and Nicholas Borg, both members of the new ITRE Committee, highlighting the need for flexibility, electrification and a new Green Deal investment fund under the next EU budget to deliver the 2030 objectives. Tomorrow we will have the election of the European Commission President and a clear idea of the political priorities for the coming 5 years - stay tuned for updates. Read our ultimate action plan for the next 5 years here 👉 https://lnkd.in/epPEw94V #SolarForEurope #GreenDealforEU #MakeSolarEU #LetsFLEX Jonathan Bonadio Dries Acke

The sky is no longer the limit for solar! 🚀     The world is likely to achieve 2 TW of total solar this year, after reaching 1 TW in 2022, and might reach the annual TW-level installations already in 2028. ☀     To get there, financing and energy system flexibility with a focus on battery storage and electrification must be unlocked. 🔓     Read more in SolarPower Europe’s Global Market Outlook for Solar Power 2024-2028.    Download the report: https://lnkd.in/eC9qqrhx     Global Solar Council (GSC) Intersolar The smarter E #SolarPower

🆕 To achieve our decarbonisation goals and boost renewable electricity capacity, we need effective frameworks to attract investments. 🌞🔋   The recent update to the Electricity Market Design #EMD, adopted in early 2024, highlights Contracts for Difference (CfDs) as the key to supporting renewables.   Industry and legislators agree that CfDs:   🌱📈 Are essential for hitting decarbonisation and renewable energy targets.   💵🔒 Provide stable revenues vital for financing renewable projects.   🛡️ Shield consumers from price volatility.   Our latest position paper explores the evolution of #CfDs and evaluates advanced proposals to maximise their effectiveness. 📝✨   We offer guidance on designing non-distortive CfDs that support the #solar sector, with expert analysis on current and emerging designs. 💡   Check out the full paper and join the conversation! 👇 https://lnkd.in/dd3-VpdV

Driving Africa's #cleanenergy future through collaborative investment! 🌍✨ At the Africa Energy Forum 2024 in Barcelona in June, we were delighted to organise a boardroom with GET.invest and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). The session gathered development finance institutions, project developers, and energy utilities, interested in investing 💵 in Africa’s energy infrastructure. GET.invest is a European programme that mobilises investments in renewable energy, co-funded by the European Union, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden and Austria. GET.invest offers support directly addressing project inherent risk via a tailored financial access advisory covering a wide range of services - from early stage structuring and financial modelling, to introductions to financiers and term sheet negotiations. During the boardroom, Christoph Both highlighted; "Together with all of our partners, we are open to working with developers to advance the projects to the bankability and financial close stage, covering all ticket sizes and all market segments within clean energy in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific." 🆕 The energy sector is becoming more digital. To support the #digitalisation wave, we've published our position on cybersecurity 💻🔒 A digital, electrified, energy system will cost Europeans €160 billion 💶 less by 2040. Today, the risk of an impactful cyberattack on Europe’s grid via solar plants is limited. However, #solar is a future-looking sector, on our way to providing the majority of Europe’s electricity. We take that responsibility seriously. 🛡 Our Deputy CEO, Dries Acke, said; "Like technological revolutions before, digitalisation also comes with new challenges, like cybersecurity. We didn’t need anti-virus protection for a typewriter – but we do need it for our laptops." Our paper sets out how Europe can establish a harmonised #cybersecurity baseline for solar 👇 🚩Improving cyber risk assessments 📋 Setting a new EU standard for product security for distributed energy resources ✊ Empowering consumers to manage their device security 🔍 Ensuring an EU or nationally authorised layer of monitoring for any centrally co-ordinated or managed devices (like aggregated rooftop solar installations)   Read the statement and the position paper 👇 https://lnkd.in/gWFei_9W

📢 EU action needed: Recognise EV battery manufacturer’s PPAs! SolarPower Europe alongside corporate renewable energy buyers, producers, and energy transition leaders, is calling for urgent action from the EU! 🚗 🔋 The Draft Delegated Act on the EV battery carbon footprint methodology risks hampering  Europe's growing power purchase agreement (PPA) market – a key decarbonisation tool for corporates. We call the European Commission and Member States to: ✅ Recognise PPAs in the EV battery carbon footprint methodology. ✅ Continue incentivising EV battery supply chain to decarbonise their electricity supply by combining PPAs and Guarantees of Origin (GOs). ✅ Don’t create parallel carbon accounting methodologies and risk double-counting. Read the full joint letter here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gG7xz-mA   #SupportPPAs #Sustainability #EU #EVBatteries
