Go team SOLAR ☀ In celebration of the Paris Olympic Games kicking off today, here's a flashback to our team solar relay race. This year, solar wins the gold medal for 🥇 : 💫 Over 60 GW of new solar added in the EU, marking a 50% increase from 2022 🤩 269 GW of total solar capacity reached in the EU, equivalent to powering 80 million EU homes ⭐ A new record of 14 European markets adding over 1 GW of annual solar installations 🏃♂️ The race is on to get to net-zero by 2040; we need energy system flexibility and a robust European solar PV manufacturing base to help us get there. Sport unites in diversity, just like solar. The cheapest, most versatile energy source with the power to provide clean energy to all Europeans. Good luck to team Europe! 💪 #Paris2024 #SolarForEurope #ReadyParisGo #Olympics

#SolarSaves: Solar combatting energy poverty☀️   Since 2021, Sofia-Xeni has been an active member of the Athens-based energy community, Hyperion. She highlights a common myth: "many believe that having solar power requires installing a solar panel on your roof".    Through innovative solutions, energy community members can generate clean energy at a different location while benefitting from reduced energy bills.⚡   Their mission extends beyond financial benefits for the members, as their activities are also dedicated to social responsibility and fighting energy poverty. They allocate 5% of their energy, currently supporting 9 vulnerable households and 2 charitable organisations with free electricity.   Discover more #SolarSaves stories 👇 https://lnkd.in/eJrztDaZ

🎉 Today, the RePower Ukraine Charitable foundation officially opened its #solar☀ and storage system at Kharkiv Children's Hopsital 🏥 in Ukraine. The hybrid opening ceremony was attended by Ihor Oleksandrovych Terekhov, Kharkiv’s City Mayor; Vitalii Vlasiuk, Advisor to the Ukrainian Minister of Health of Ukraine; and by SolarPower Europe CEO Walburga Hemetsberger. The hospital’s newly installed hybrid solar + storage system, consisting of a 30 kW solar power plant and 43 kWh energy storage system, will guarantee that 250 children can receive crucial specialised healthcare services, including palliative care. ❤️🩹 BSW – Bundesverband Solarwirtschaft e.V., and SolarPower Europe supported the completion of the hybrid solar and storage project as part of our #SolarSupportsUkraine 🌻 campaign. This campaign aims to help install solar on schools🏫 and hospitals🏥 in Ukraine, tackling energy outages. The RePower Ukraine Foundation is also a partner in our campaign. 📣 The Solar Diversity Champion Award applications are open! We expect the solar sector to supply at least 1.2 million jobs in 2027. 🤯 This means it is crucial to ensure that Diversity, Equity and Inclusion practices are integrated into the workforce, and while #solar☀️ has been the most gender-balanced renewable energy technology, there is still much more work to be done to improve gender equality and diversity more widely, at all levels of an organisation. The Award aims to recognise organisations within the European solar sector who have demonstrated commitment and success in creating diverse, inclusive work environments. 🤝 Through this initiative we hope to increase visibility and encourage more companies to prioritise Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the workplace, leading to a stronger and more innovative solar industry. 🫶 Discover more and submit your application now 👇  https://lnkd.in/df3T6BC6 #SolarWorks

🆕 European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has been re-elected by the European Parliament. SolarPower Europe CEO, Walburga Hemetsberger said: "President von der Leyen’s re-election offers a welcome stability for Europe, recognising her critical role in guiding the continent through the wave of crises in recent years.    The President’s speech in plenary confirms that delivering the Green Deal remains a priority under the new Commission mandate, with a focus on implementation and investment. This is good news for Europe and for the energy transition." The new Political Guidelines of the President propose an EU Clean Industrial Deal 👏. This reflects our joint call in June of 550+ organisations from across society and the economy, reminding leaders that green competitiveness is the launchpad 🚀 to sustainable growth. Our modelling shows that renewables and flexible electrification will reduce energy costs 📉 by 25% in 2030 & 33% by 2040, structurally shielding European industry from fossil fuel volatility. To deliver on the EU Clean Industrial Deal, we urge President von der Leyen to acknowledge the need for Europe to rapidly accelerate ⏩ its energy flexibility & electrification plans. It's Strasbourg week! ☀ SolarPower Europe have landed in Strasbourg for the first plenary session of the new EU mandate. This week our team are meeting with new and returning MEPs to talk all things #solar. Our message is clear: solar is booming, offering Europe a future of prosperity and energy security. But there is no time for complacency. Let's get to work implementing key legislation to accelerate the energy transition. ⏩ For the next EU mandate we hope to see a strong focus on improving grid flexibility and reshoring a robust solar manufacturing base to Europe. Our Deputy CEO, Dries Acke, attended the European Energy Forum General Assembley, witnessing the hand-over from MEP Jerzy Buzek to MEP Tsvetelina Penkova as President of the Forum. At the Gala Dinner, Dries spoke about the importance of industrial electrification for EU competitiveness. Along with our Senior Policy Advisor, Jonathan Bonadio, they met with several newly elected MEPs including Wouter Beke and Nicholas Borg, both members of the new ITRE Committee, highlighting the need for flexibility, electrification and a new Green Deal investment fund under the next EU budget to deliver the 2030 objectives. Tomorrow we will have the election of the European Commission President and a clear idea of the political priorities for the coming 5 years - stay tuned for updates.
