Interview with Great Basin Sun
Buehler highlighted the following themes in an interview with Great Basin Sun on May 22, 2024.[2]
“ |
My passion is Service! And, as a life-long learner, I believe that one's inner drive for knowledge determines how far they can go in life. I want to ensure that every young person in Nevada has the opportunity to become successful. I believe in the concept of "leadership by walking around". Once elected, I will be meeting with each of the leadership teams of Northern Nevada's school districts to determine their needs and how I can be an advocate for those needs at our state's Board of Education and the Legislature in Carson City. Then, I will be active in working with those organizations to get the funding and programs in-place to ensure they can be carried out. Nevada's current K-12 education system is BROKEN. Soon, if it hasn't already, this will negatively impact our economy. I have the tools, drive and experience to be a key contributor to fixing this problem. I will also restore respect for education and the teaching profession here in Nevada. We must institute programs that will help our children build successful futures. One such opportunity is to partner with businesses in our State to offer training programs in the Trades (i.e., welding, electrical, plumbing, etc.) to our high school students. We must provide our motivated students who do not wish to immediately enter college upon graduation the opportunity to complete a dual-track diploma and trade certification program that will enable them to obtain good-paying, in-demand jobs upon graduation.[3] |
