Larry Livingston completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Livingston's responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Change the method of taxation, lower the cost of health care, education, and housing, fight against socialism.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I would say education, health care, and taxation as I have worked in all of these areas.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

I think Timothy Taylor is a great economist.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

The Little Prince. It speaks of authenticity.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

I have been poor, middle class, and wealthy enough so that I did not need to work. We need somebody that has experienced all three of these situations. It is hard for somebody who has never poor to understand the life and real needs of a poor person. It is also hard sometimes for the poor to understand the middle class or wealthy.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I care about this country long term. I would like to think about how policies will affect the country in several hundred years, and not just the next election cycle.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Do what is right and represent the people of your district. Party loyalty should come after doing what is right and representing your district.

What legacy would you like to leave?

He was willing to look at some new ideas and not just argue about old ideas.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

President Eisenhower was on TV. I think I was about 3.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

I have been working since I was 13. I have done multiple jobs most of my life.

What happened on your most awkward date?

A woman kissed me in a cave when the lights went out.

What is your favorite holiday? Why?

July 24. I am proud of my pioneer heritage. All my ancestors came to Utah during this time period.

What is your favorite book? Why?

The Little Prince. It is better to read it in French then in English. It talks about how phony people have become.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

I really do not care to be a fictional character.

What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?

I do not have anything in my apartment. I am poor.

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

Perfect

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

Dealing with liberal hypocrisy.

What process do you favor for redistricting?

It is impossible. There is no such thing as an objective committee.

What qualities does the U.S. House of Representatives possess that makes it unique as an institution?

It is broke and it is crazy.

Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?

In normal times yes, but since it is so broke and crazy maybe we need new people who will do the right thing.

What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?

The national debt.

If you are not a current representative, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?

I care more about saving the country and working with the whole congress than any committees.

If you are a current representative, why did you join your current committees?

I am not.

Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives?

It does not matter. Congress would never vote to change it.

What are your thoughts on term limits?

Unconstitutional.

If you are not currently a member of your party’s leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives, would you be interested in joining the leadership? If so, in what role?

I am not.

Is there a particular representative, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?

The man was imperfect and did a lot of wrong things, but I think taking everything he did as a whole, I admire Richard Nixon the most.

Both sitting representatives and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?

No. It is too early.
