Al Jaeger
Al Jaeger (Republican Party) was the North Dakota Secretary of State. He assumed office on January 1, 1993. He left office on January 1, 2023.
Jaeger (independent) ran for re-election for North Dakota Secretary of State. He won in the general election on November 6, 2018.
Jaeger was first elected as a Republican. He announced in May 2018 that he would run as an independent after Will Gardner, who had been endorsed by the state Republican Party, dropped out of the race after the filing deadline for partisan candidates had passed. Jaeger had initially announced after the endorsement that he would not seek re-election in 2018.[1][2] As of March 2021, Jaeger was listed as a Republican by both the National Association of Secretaries of State and the Republican Party of North Dakota.[3][4]
Jaeger served eight terms on the executive committee of the National Association of Secretaries of State. Prior to his election as secretary of state Jaeger did not serve in any other offices. He was a self-employed real estate broker and had his own brokerage business.[5]
Biography
Shortly following his graduation from Dickinson State University, Jaeger taught at Killdeer High School for three years and then at Kenmare High School for another two years. From 1966 and 1972 he balanced his professional career with his duties as an active member of the North Dakota Army National Guard. After he moved to Fargo, North Dakota, in 1971, Jaeger worked for two years as a marketing analyst for the Mobil Oil Corporation. From 1973 to 1992, Jaeger operated his own real estate brokerage firm in Fargo.[5]
Jaeger serves as Chairman of the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) Standing Committee on Awards and Publications and liaison to the Administrative Codes and Registers (ACR) Section of NASS. He is also a member at large for the Executive Committee of the NASS, and a member of North Dakota Board of University and School Lands, of the North Dakota Emergency Commission Member, and of the North Dakota State Historical Society.[5]
