Securing #renewables supply chains is critical to support the transition, and increased #India-#Australia collaboration could benefit both countries. IEEFA Asia Pacific's Vibhuti Garg and Shantanu Srivastava, CFA found that: 💠 Clean energy technologies, like #solar PV and #batteries, depend on the availability of several raw materials and minerals, which can take up to a decade to extract and process. Therefore, countries relying heavily on imports, notably from #China, must strategically plan their investments in the supply chain. 💠 Increased public funding is vital to de-risk innovations and investments in the #cleanenergy supply chain and attract private capital. Many governments are actively creating policies and incentives to promote domestic clean #energy manufacturing. 💠 In this context, the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) is a significant development that aims to help Indian corporates make strategic investments in Australian critical mineral mines such as lithium and cobalt, which are essential for battery manufacturing. 💠 A collective capital pool from India and Australia can offer catalytic support through grants for capacity building, project preparation and research and development in refining technology and low-carbon mining in India and Australia. There were two RE auction results this week from India. What is curious is the tariff for wind+solar hybrid plant is about 25% higher than solar plant. Wondering about the status of round-the-clock auctions of wind+solar+BESS. Shouldn't all auctions move to RTC format as it is much more favorable from a grid integration stand point? 1. SJVN Green Energy awarded 1500 MW Wind & Solar Hybrid Power Projects to 7 companies. Winning bids were Rs 3.41 to 3.42 (~ 4.1 US cents) per kWh. It stipulated that at least 33% of the capacity should be from wind or solar. https://lnkd.in/ezbcJkmX 2. GUVNL of Gujarat awarded 500 MW of solar power projects to 6 companies at Rs 2.67 to 2.72 (~ 3.21 to 3.27 US cents) per kWh https://lnkd.in/eC5ZqhVm 3. SECI conducted round-the-clock auction of wind+solar+BESS in 2020, the winning bid was for 400 MW project @ Rs 2.9/kWh with 3% annual escalation for 15 years. https://lnkd.in/e7KT8D4U However, the subsequent RTC auctions for higher capacity were not successful. Recently, CEA has developed a cost range for RTC projects from Rs 3.80 /kWh to Rs 4.67/kWh for 80% and 95% annual availability.

Rajasthan And Madhya Pradesh Two large States of India have ample potential to generate renewable power to meet its electricity demand from #Solar and #Wind plus Pumped Storage Projects and BESS. More than clean energy, their Discoms need cheap power considering the large proportion of power needed from #Agriculture and BPL consumers. These states have low industry consumption and the industry is looking for #GEOA. MP has Rs 750 per kVA as fixed charges but with #BESS at Rs 8 per Watt will also ensure lower contract demand by industry, another dent in revenue. Rajasthan should consider #BarterPPA with states like Chattisgarh and Odisha to balance out RE and Thermal power

Record-low BESS rates in Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GUVNL) mark the beginning of a major shift in India’s Energy Storage System market. BESS is set to become the fastest-growing segment in India’s energy transition within the next 1-3 years. Every energy project in the planning stage now includes a BESS component. Whether it’s standalone MW-scale BESS systems for grid management or Solar/Hybrid + BESS, new announcements are coming out daily. Reputed companies in this segment are becoming highly sought after. BESS developers like Gensol Engineering Limited and IndiGrid along with BESS system suppliers like Sanvaru Technology Ltd. Power Forever .are in high demand. The energy storage market is on the cusp of exponential growth, driven by the continual decline in battery prices over the next few years. This market is currently in a similar growth phase to what the solar industry experienced a few years ago. In the coming years, it will be rare to see solar or grid stability projects without an energy storage component. Australian Industry and its future. Insightful Perspectives on Australia's Gas Industry by Madeline King; Madeleine King is federal Resources Minister and Minister for Northern Australia. In today's edition of the Financial Review, Madeline King our resource minister eloquently highlights the pivotal role Australia's gas industry has played in bolstering our economy. Led by its Clean Energy Transition Committee, the Australia Japan Business Co-operation Committee (AJBCC)'s recent conference in Adelaide was an outstanding success. The conference examined the key themes relevant to "Transitioning the Australia-Japan Energy Partnership Towards a Carbon-Neutral 2050". The Conference underscored and re-affirmed the mutually strong, beneficial and enduring partnership between Australia and Japan in the energy space. The shared goals, commitment and focus of both countries has laid the foundations for one of the most successful energy partnerships in the world. The Conference explored how these foundations are again creating the footing and basis to advance and turbo charge opportunities in support of Australia and Japan's energy transition towards a net zero future. Key observations from the Conference are set out in the document shared with this post. It is a genuinely exciting time in the energy sector and the energy transition sector - a time for renewed and even stronger collaboration between Australia and Japan. There are of course challenges with every opportunity but the opportunities are significant. As concluded by the Conference, successfully pursuing and realising these opportunities will be immeasurably enhanced by re-invigorating the Australia Japan Energy Partnership through effective and meaningful engagement and collaboration between and across all key stakeholders - business, financiers, governments (and their relevant agencies) and policy makers.
