The strategy focuses on enhancing Australia’s role in the global battery supply chain through initiatives like developing stationary storage systems, processing battery materials, and advancing battery technology for the transport sector. The launch, held at QUT’s Advanced Battery Facility, underscores Australia’s potential to bolster its clean energy manufacturing sector, aiming for significant contributions to the country's emission reduction goals. Associate Professor Joshua Watts highlighted Australia's rich resources and expertise, positioning it to lead in the sustainable battery manufacturing field. Federal Minister for Industry and Science, Ed Husic, emphasized the shift from exporting raw materials to producing high-value battery components, a move expected to generate substantial job opportunities within Australia and strengthen its standing as a renewable energy leader.
