All Australians actively caring for the land and water that sustains us

About us

There are approximately 6,000 volunteer environmental groups across Australia that fall under the Landcare umbrella. Where possible, and through the support of our corporate and philanthropic partners, Landcare Australia provides resources and distributes funding to these groups, while also raising awareness of the Landcare movement through national promotional campaigns including Landcare Week and the National Landcare Awards. Landcare Australia brokers partnerships with corporate and government which enable the organisation to administer grants programs for groups around the country, helping ensure that a difference can continue to be made at grass roots level.

🏆Landcare Week Champion Stories! Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharyn Yelverton 🍃🌏Sharyn moved to Tasmania in 2014 and in her first week she joined the Friends of Randalls Bay Coastcare (FORB) where she is significantly contributing to the protection and long-term conservation management of Tasmania’s unique natural places, rare ecosystems and habitat for threatened plants and animals. Sharyn’s infectious passion for the environment has a magnetic effect, inspiring others to get involved and make a difference. 🏅Sharyn’s connection to landcare dates to the very beginning of Landcare movement. A member of The Rapid Creek Landcare group, the first landcare group in NT, rehabilitating and replanting natural vine forest, partially destroyed when the new Darwin airport was built. 🏅Sharyn started the Darwin Urban Environment Action Group and successfully lobbied the then government to look more carefully at their approach to planning. Sharyn was Coordinator of Friends of Randalls Bay Coastcare (FORB) for four years. In 2021 the Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC) honoured Sharyn Yelverton with the title of Honorary Life Member. 🌿🌏As we kick off Landcare Week 2024, we want to acknowledge the former Australian Prime Minister, Bob Hawke AC, who created Landcare Australia and landcare as a national movement in 1989.🌿🌏 🌱🚜Over the last 35 years, landcare has evolved to encompass not only farmers and conservationists in rural areas, but everyone in local communities across Australia who are taking action to 🌾restore, 🍃enhance and protect land, 💦waterways and biodiversity. 🍺🍻Since Bob’s passing in 2019, his legacy for the landcare movement continues through Landcare Australia and his close association with Hawke’s Brewing. The team from Hawke’s Brewing have continued to brew beer in his name for the enjoyment for all Australians, with Bob’s royalties going to Landcare Australia to support landcare projects including the Endangered Coastal Emu Protection project in Northern NSW, and 🦀Mudcrabs in Sydney. 🏛️♻️This Landcare Week, we want to acknowledge Bob’s contribution to landcare and his vision for all Australians: “The degradation of our environment is not simply a local problem, nor a problem for one state or another, nor for the Commonwealth alone. Rather, the damage being done to our environment is a problem for us all – and not just government- but for of us individually and together.” 💪🏅We also want to thank the team at Hawke’s Brewing for their continued support for landcare projects where communities come together to care for the land, and each other. A few years ago, the Hawke’s team recorded probably one of the last interviews with Bob. His messages from then are just as important for us to👂listen to today. Start your Landcare Week with a message from Bob and enjoy some beautiful Australian landscapes. Thank you, Bob! Watch Bob Here 📽️ https://lnkd.in/gBwc2hd #LandcareWeek #LandcareIsForeEveryone #LIFE

Private landholders play a crucial role in looking after nature. It takes passion, commitment and dedication to manage land for conservation, which is why it’s great when landholders can come together to share their experiences. The Australian Land Conservation Alliance, the Biodiversity Conservation Trust and Trust for Nature Victoria are delivering a private land conservation forum, especially for landholders. The forum, which will include panel sessions, guest speakers and field trips, is a chance for landholders from different regions to connect, learn from each other, share their challenges and successes, and to provide feedback about what matters to them. ✍️Registrations are now open: https://lnkd.in/grZReZBn Supported by the Victorian Government, The Pew Charitable Trusts and Charles Sturt University. 📆To learn more about other events in your area or to add your own event visit https://lnkd.in/gz_mR3dz #privatelandconservation
