Charges

Page Composition Charges

Page composition charges are $80 for each page of the finished typeset article. The Editors, at their discretion, may waive these charges. Invited articles and correspondence are exempt from page charges; if you choose an Open Access license, publication charges will still apply per below.

Color Charges

Authors are charged for the print reproduction of color figures, except for Invited Articles. The cost is $550 per color figure for each printed color figure.  In the submission cover letter, authors should state whether they will bear the cost of reproducing their color figures or whether they prefer to have them published in black and white at no additional cost.  Invited articles and correspondence are exempt from color charges; if you choose an Open Access license, publication charges will still apply per below.

Billing and Waivers

If an author opts for Open Access (see below), the publisher will bill the author prior to an article’s online publication; there is no article processing charge for selecting a standard license. The publisher will later bill the author concurrently for any page and color charges, as well as any reprints ordered. Invited Perspectives, Editorials, and Correspondence related to articles recently published in JID will not be subject to page charges. Please note: article processing charges are billed and collected through a separate process from any page and color-figure charges.

Authors can pay charges using our Author Portal.

In unusual circumstances, the Editor may waive page charges. Requests for page charge waivers should be made in the author’s cover letter when submitting the manuscript.

Open Access option for authors

JID offers the option of publishing under either a standard license or an open access license. Please note that some funders require open access publication as a condition of funding. In addition, some funders (including Plan S participants, Gates Foundation, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Wellcome Trust, and World Health Organization) require publication in a fully open access journal as a condition of funding. JID is not a fully open access journal; therefore, if your funder requires publication in a fully open access journal, you should ensure that you have alternative funding (such as a transformative agreement between your institution and Oxford University Press) to support publication costs. If you are unsure whether you are required to publish open access, please do clarify any such requirements with your funder or institution.

Should you wish to publish your article open access, you should select your choice of open access license in our online system after your article has been accepted for publication. You will need to pay an open access charge to publish under an open access license as well as page charges and color figure charges (if any color figures).

Details of the open access licences and open access charges.

OUP has a growing number of Read and Publish agreements with institutions and consortia which provide funding for open access publishing. This means authors from participating institutions can publish open access, and the institution may pay the charge. Find out if your institution is participating.
