Abstract
This chapter is largely based on census data. Sources include the study team’s 1977 and 1985 Project Censuses of all New Zealand Tokelauans, the New Zealand Censuses of 1976, 1981, and 1986, and information from our medical examinations and sociological interviews in New Zealand. These data not only provide a sketch of the living conditions of the migrants, but they also indicate some of the distinguishing features of each of the several migrant communities and their changing character.
