The Research Finance Support (RFS) Team is committed to providing outstanding support from award set-up through award close-out to our faculty, external sponsors, and other University personnel. RFS ensures the financials that support research comply with the latest sponsor guidelines, regulations, and NYU policy. RFS provides world-class services in research management, compliance monitoring, and financial planning. RFS advances the vision of the university in accelerating the research and sponsored program enterprise while adhering to university policies and federal regulations.

Award Lifecycle

RFS is responsible for the financial Post-Award administration for all grants management activities after an award is received. This includes the initial authority to spend the grant money through the fiscal closeout and final reports at the end of the grant period. Check out the RFS Award Closeout Timeline (Google Slide).

After the Pre-Award phase, the project moves into the Post-Award phase. RFS takes action on the Award Setup, Award Management, and Award Closeout. The Account Aduit and Revenue Cycle (AA&RC) handles the final phase, Revenue & Audits.

Grants, Gifts, and Investments Accounting & Compliance

The Office of Grants, Gifts, and Investments Accounting & Compliance (GGIA&C) provides support to facilitate the advancement of NYU in the areas of research, sponsored activities, contributions, and investments while ensuring the integrity of the institution’s enterprise through proper stewardship of external funding.

The Accounting, Audit, and Revenue Cycle (AA&RC) department performs the cash management and revenue reconciliation functions for sponsored programs and all research-related audits across the New York University global campuses. 

Costing & Analysis (C&A) provides the preparation, submission, negotiation, and defense of the University's Federal Facilities & Administrative (F&A) rate. The preparation, submission, negotiation, and defense of the University's Federal fringe benefit rate, the administration of the University's Time & Effort Certification documentation and process and university data requests.

Accounting & Compliance for Contributions & Investments (ACC&I) has ownership of centralized accounting for all operational, designated, and restricted funds. The General Accounting area is responsible for all operating funds, foundations, real estate, auxiliaries, agencies, and services centers. The Restricted Accounting area includes designated funds, endowments and spending distribution, and student loans.
