Welcome to the NYU community! Important dates and deadlines for undergraduate students who will begin at NYU New York in Fall 2024 are highlighted below.
In addition, remember to:
- Activate your NYU email account via the NYU Start page
- Check your inbox regularly
- Maintain a current home mailing address on Albert
- Be on the lookout for mail sent to your home address

May 1 — On-Campus Housing Application and Reservation Payment
Any new first-year student who is interested in living on campus may submit a 2024-2025 housing application via the housing portal in NYU Home and submit the $1000 housing reservation payment directly to the Bursar's Office. Any new first-year student admitted after May 1st will be able to complete a housing application by their Admissions enrollment deadline.
Now — Update your U.S. Mobile Phone Number
Using your NYU Net-ID (e.g., abc123) and password, log in to NYU Albert:
- Select "Personal Info"
- Click on "Edit Phone Numbers" in the "Phone Numbers" section.
- Under "Phone Type" find or select the "Mobile" option and ensure that the correct U.S. number is listed
- Be sure to click "Save."
First-year students will receive important texts throughout the year about resources, tips, and motivational moments.
Note: If you do not have a U.S. mobile phone number yet, you can do this at a later time.
Now — Begin Registering for Accessibility Services and Accommodations
The Moses Center for Student Accessibility provides services and programs for students with a wide range of accessibility/disability needs. Please refer to the Center's website for information about arranging for accommodations before or after you arrive at NYU. You can request accommodations at any time, however, doing so early will help to ensure you have access to services the moment you arrive at NYU.
May 15 — Enroll in Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Enroll in MFA on at least two different devices.

Now — Take the NYU Incoming Student Survey
Share your expectations for college, your habits and experiences, and what influenced your college choice—all things that help us better understand and support your journey at NYU!
Your answers will help us personalize your college experience and guide you through your first year based on what you need the most. The Incoming Student Survey officially closes on August 23.
Early June — Submit a Photo for Your NYUCard
Your NYU student ID, also known as your NYUCard, is your sidekick on campus. New students may submit their photo online to ensure their card is ready when they arrive on campus. The deadline to submit a photo is August 1st. Once submitted, be sure to check your NYU email for next steps from the Card Center team. When your photo is approved, they will notify you via email to let you know when and how to get your NYUCard.
June 1 — International Students Submit I-20/DS-2019 Application
For new international students, the Office of Global Services strongly recommends that applications be filed as soon as possible, though please be prepared for potential delays in securing consular appointments and visa processing.
June 10 — Project OutReach Participant Priority and Final Application Deadlines
Project OutReach is a pre-orientation peer mentorship program for service-minded students to engage in service-based cohorts led by current NYU students! Student participants will move in prior to NYU Welcome to build connections, learn how to navigate NYU and NYC, and develop as socially responsible citizens.
June 7 - Priority Application Deadline
June 10 - Final Application Deadline
June 15 — Last Day for New First Year Students to Cancel Housing
Any newly admitted first-year student can cancel their applications in the housing portal in NYU Home without penalty by June 15. Beyond this date, students are committed to the terms of the housing license.
Mid-June — Advising and Course Registration
Registration varies by program. Starting in mid-June — and continuing through the end of summer — stay tuned for school-specific advisement and course registration.
As a new NYU student, you will work with an academic advisor who will help craft a schedule that fits your academic, career, and goals while meeting your school's requirements. You will meet with your advisor during orientation and work together throughout your time at NYU. You should expect to hear more details regarding advisement from your school or degree program via NYU Email. June 25 — NYU Student Health Insurance Portal Opens
Most students are automatically enrolled in and charged a premium for an NYU-sponsored Student Health Insurance plan as part of the course registration process. Students who maintain alternate health insurance coverage that meets the University’s minimum health insurance criteria may waive the NYU-sponsored student health insurance plan entirely.
June 30 — Update Your Recovery Email
Make sure you never lose access to your NYU accounts by updating your recovery email.

Prepare everything you need ahead of time! The Student Tech Guide is a central resource to answer commonly-asked tech questions. Learn how to configure NYU Email, connect to Wi-Fi, use Brightspace for class assignments, get antivirus software, set up Zoom, and more!

The Wellness Exchange is your greatest mental health resource at NYU. Our 24-hour hotline can be reached at (212) 443-9999. Download the Wellness Exchange App to chat with a counselor anytime. Literally 24/7. Available in six languages.
NYU Mobile was designed to enhance the NYU student experience and help students to navigate NYU on the go. NYU Mobile offers features such as real-time shuttle tracking, campus map and building locations, a schedule of University events, job postings, and emergency notifications.
Safe NYU is NYU’s campus safety app that goes where you go! Providing safety information for more than 190 countries on six continents, Safe NYU provides preparedness tips, transportation information, and emergency numbers, while connecting students to support resources including victim assistance, the Wellness Exchange, and the bias response line.
Mid-July — Housing and Residential Life Update
If you applied to live on campus, check your NYU inbox for an update regarding your housing assignment, move-in time, and roommate contact information. This communication will also share how to register for your residence hall check-in date and time. Move-in weekend for First Year Residence Halls is August 24 and 25. Please also note the following helpful information:
July 7 — First Day to Review Meal Plan and Make Changes
NYU requires all first-year, transfer, and visiting students living in an NYU residence hall to participate in the NYU meal plan program for two semesters. If living on campus, you will automatically be assigned the 225 Flex meal plan but allowable changes can be made through the NYU Dining Portal. For dining hall and meal plan information — including rates — please visit the NYU Dining website.
July 15 — Submit Final Transcripts
Send your final transcripts to NYU by July 15 to meet our proof of graduation policy. If not, it is likely that you won’t be allowed to register for fall courses and you’ll be dropped from your pre-registered courses. An extension, though, will be granted to students outside the U.S. whose secondary schools operate on a different schedule. Students who may need more time due to school calendars will be able to request an extension in mid-June.
July 15 — Submit Mandatory Health Forms
This is a health requirement. This checklist will make it easier for you.
Deadline to submit proof of immunizations [Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) and Meningitis) Meningococcal Meningitis Vaccination Response Form (if applicable), the Student Health History form, and the Wellbeing Questionnaire. If you are under 18 years of age, you must also submit the Treatment of a Minor form so that you can access services at the Student Health Center. Failing to meet these requirements can result in disenrollment from classes.
July 17 — Access Fall 2023 Bill
Students should use eSuite via NYU Albert to view and pay the fall semester bill and to invite others (e.g. parents/guardians) to be authorized payers. Financial Aid Recipients: Any NYU scholarships/grants that were offered should be listed as "anticipated aid" on your bill. Students planning to utilize federal loans should accept the amount they would like to borrow on NYU Albert and complete the required entrance counseling and master promissory note on studentaid.gov.
July 18 - Grab Stay True: A Memoir by Hua Hsu - Your "NYU Reads" Book
The NYU Reads selection for the 2024-25 academic year is Stay True: A Memoir by Hua Hsu (2022). Named one of the Top 10 Books of 2022 by the New York Times, Stay True received the 2022 National Book Critics Circle Award and the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Memoir or Autobiography.
You should plan on reading Stay True by the end of the summer. You can purchase a copy of the book at any bookstore or online vendor, including the NYU Bookstore. A reading guide for Stay True, as well as information about accessing a digital copy of the book via the NYU Libraries, are forthcoming and will be posted on the NYU Reads website.
August 1 — Last Day to Submit a Photo for Your NYUCard
August 1 is the last day to get your NYUCard in three easy steps. Visit photoid.nyu.edu and submit a photo to be used on your NYUCard, which is required on all NYU campuses.
August 6 — Tuition Payment Due
Undergraduate payment deadline. Pay your bill via eSuite or enroll in a payment plan prior to the deadline.
August 10 — Set Up NYU Engage and Event Pass for NYU Welcome
Activate your NYU Engage account to download your Event Pass. Use NYU Engage to find Welcome programming, clubs, and events you’re interested in, then scan your Event Pass when you arrive.
August 15 — Access to Job Listings, On-Campus Employment, and Coaching
The Wasserman Center for Career Development’s job search portal, Handshake, is the best place to start your search for on- and off-campus jobs and internships. You can also schedule career coaching appointments, access career resources, and view resume guides to prepare for the hunt. All new students will receive access to Handshake by the end of August.
August 24-25 — Welcome Weekend & First Year Residence Hall Move-Ins
The big weekend — when you officially start your first year on campus at NYU! This thrilling and emotional time includes residence hall move-in, parent and family welcome sessions, and an information fair.
New undergraduate students and their family members are invited to visit the Kimmel Center to meet representatives from various NYU offices and organizations. It's a great place to pick up your student ID, take a break, and get some swag. Schools, academic programs, residence halls, and various NYU offices will be hosting programs throughout the weekend, but the Kimmel Center is the hub for most of the action — and the help and guidance you might need.
August 24-September 7 — NYU Welcome
NYU Welcome features an exciting series of programs and events for all undergraduate and graduate students to build connections and community for the start of Fall semester.
August 25 — Access Global Awards Advisement and Explore Social Impact Opportunities on Campus and Beyond
The NYU Changemaker Center helps students build the skills, knowledge, and networks needed to take action on issues that matter to them. Explore social impact opportunities, access skills-building workshops and networking events, connect with a network of changemakers through immersive programs, and learn about global awards opportunities. The Office of Global Awards, housed within the NYU Changemaker Center, advises undergraduate students through the application process for a diverse catalog of scholarships and fellowships. Schedule a one-on-one appointment or join drop-in office hours with Global Awards advisors to learn more.
August 26-August 30 — School Orientations
During your School Orientation you will meet other new students, learn what it is like to study at your school, and be fully welcomed to your department and program.Over the summer, you will receive important information via your NYU email about mandatory and optional events, key dates, and to-dos. School Orientation is complementary to NYU Welcome events. All week, you can expect mandatory orientation events in the morning and optional social programs in the evening.
August 30 — Complete AlcoholEdu: Part One
This is a health requirement. This checklist will make it easier for you.
All new students must complete the “AlcoholEdu” course online — even those who are over 21, or do not drink alcohol for personal, health, religious, or other reasons. Everyone will benefit from a shared basic knowledge of the effects of alcohol, potential problems, ways to reduce risk, and resources to help ourselves and others. “AlcoholEdu” is presented in two parts. Failing to complete both parts will hinder your ability to register for future classes. Check your NYU email a few weeks before the deadline for an invitation to take the course.
August 30 — Complete Think About It Training
This is a health requirement. This checklist will make it easier for you.
In an effort to maintain a safe and aware campus community, all NYU students must complete the sexual misconduct prevention online training program called “Think About It.” Failing to complete this training will hinder your ability to enroll in future classes. Check your NYU email a few weeks before the deadline for an invitation to take the course.
August 31 - Finish Your "NYU Reads" Book
The NYU Reads program brings the NYU community together around a single common reading, chosen by a University committee made up of faculty, student, and administrator representatives. First-year undergraduate students engage in events and discussions about the reading so we recommend reading the book over the summer. Information about accessing the book is available on the NYU Reads website. Undergraduate schools will reach out with details about how the reading will be incorporated into your experience before the start of the school year.
August 31 — Upper-Year Residence Hall Move-In
Students living in Upper-Year Residence Halls can move in starting this date.
September 1 — Use "NYU Connect" to Find Your People
NYU Connect puts your Success Network — the advisors, professors, and staff who are advocating for you — right at your fingertips. Get your pressing questions answered or schedule meetings with those in your network as you transition to NYU, your new home.
September 2 — Labor Day and Academic Calendar Reminder
No classes are scheduled and University offices are closed on Labor Day.
September 3 — First Day of Classes
Fall classes begin. Prior to class, log into Brightspace to review class syllabi (if available) and arrive at class prepared — and on time.
September 3 — Attend International Student Orientation and Submit the New International Student Arrival Form
OGS International Student Orientation is mandatory for your first semester in the US and comes in two parts: the US Immigration Requirements Training (a self-paced online module) and the International Student Meeting. Both parts of the orientation are required for all new international students in F-1 or J-1 status at NYU. Learn more and sign up for OGS orientation. The US government also requires all international students in F-1 and J-1 status to report their arrival to their schools. You officially report your arrival to NYU through the OGS arrival form.
September 16 — Last Day to Cancel or Change Meal Plan
This is the last day to submit allowable changes or cancellations through the NYU Dining Portal. For dining hall and meal plan information, including rates, please visit the NYU Dining website.
September 30 — Last Day to Enroll in or Waive Student Health Insurance
This is a health requirement. This checklist will make it easier for you.
Deadline to confirm your enrollment in an NYU-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan, make changes to a plan, or to opt out due to alternate coverage.
September 30 — Complete AlcoholEdu: Part Two
This is a health requirement. This checklist will make it easier for you.
"AlcoholEdu" is presented in two parts. You will receive an email invitation to complete part two 30 days after completing part one. It is important to complete Part 1 by the deadline so you can also complete Part 2 on time. Failing to complete both parts will hinder your ability to register for future classes.
October 14 — Fall Break

October 24-27 — Alumni & Families Weekend
Join us for an incredible weekend in New York connecting with NYU alumni, parents, family members, students, faculty, and staff! We are thrilled to celebrate the largest alumni network of any private University and welcome our new NYU families.
