From Bono with love: The Hewsons wave goodbye to Venice after Clooney wedding

Bono and Ali Hewson have finally ended their Venice trip.

The U2 frontman and his wife of 32 years flew into Italy on Saturday morning for George Clooney's wedding to human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin.

Bono and wife Ali are two high profile residents of Dalkey, though they are not believed to be members of the credit union

But now that the ‘Hollywood Wedding of the Year’ is over, it’s time for the A listers to make their way home from Venice's Marco Polo airport.

Keen to end the memorable weekend with a bang, Bono and Ali spent their last few hours taking a water taxi around the city's picturesque canals.

"Wedding? What wedding? I was at a bar mitzvah," Bono joked to People Magazine as he was papped over the weekend.

"It was very emotional and lovely," he said of the ceremony.

"The party was great," he said. "It's still going on … in some people's minds."

The Ocean’s Eleven star is close friends with U2 frontman Bono, and even had him at his engagement party back in May.

After months of speculation, Clooney (53) and his Lebanese bride (36) legalized their marriage yesterday in a civil ceremony before being spotted at the Venice airport leaving the Italian city.

They had already celebrated their union at an exclusive party on Saturday evening at hotel Aman, which overlooks the Grand Canal in Central Venice.

Other famous faces at the lavish affair included Cindy Crawford, Bill Murray, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Anna Wintour and Ellen Barkin.

Meanwhile, it’s back to business for Bono, who has confirmed that U2 are planning an arena tour next year.

The singer (54) revealed that the iconic band are looking forward to promoting their new album Songs of Innocence:

Speaking to Absolute Radio's Christian O'Connell, he said: "We're gonna be touring. We're gonna start next year. We're gonna try and play the O2 and places like that..We'll be coming your way and these songs are the songs that, I think . . . I think they will play themselves."
