The first pictures of the showbiz wedding of the decade have been revealed.

And apart from pictures of a tuxedo-clad Clooney embarking on a water taxi to the venue on Saturday afternoon, the couple managed to keep any pictures of the dress under wraps.

Contrary to initial reports that US Vogue had won the bidding war to publish the pictures, People Magazine and Hello! both today released teasers to the newlyweds' big day in Venice.

The magazines go inside the incredible ceremony at the seven-starAman Canal Grande Hotel on Saturday evening, where they gifted guests with costly goodie bags, including iPods with specially selected playlists  of songs chosen by the couple.

And contrary to reports she'd be wearing Alexander McQueen, Amal walked up the aisle in a couture Oscar de la Renta gown.

"He's such an elegant designer and such an elegant man," the blushing bride told the magazine.

According to Amal's mother Baria, the celebrations were  "legendary".Photos:

"George and Amal radiated love all night," she told People magazine. "The wedding was so unbelievably special, it was legendary. These three days – the friends, the families, the atmosphere, everything – will stay with me all the rest of my life."

Four people gave speeches at the reception, among them Baria.

"I said, 'George, we love you truly, deeply and sincerely. We enjoy your charm, your wit, intelligent conversation and generosity. You are simply perfect,'" she explained.

The Hollywood star wore a simple tux for the special day, created by Giorgio Armani. He accessorised with cufflinks, which were a gift from Amal and had 'George' inscribed on them in Arabic.

"[Giorgio is] the class act of all class acts," the actor said. "He's been a good friend for many years and the night wouldn't be complete without him."

The wedding lasted over the whole weekend, ending with the couple's legal ceremony yesterday. George calls Venice the "most romantic city in the world" and explained he and Amal met in Italy and as they have their Lake Como home there, they always knew it would be where they married.

Nora Sagal sang Always at the wedding, which was George's parents' first dance when they tied the knot. The new couple chose Cole Porter track Why Shouldn't I? for theirs.

George's father Nick told guests his son and new wife had shown love was "alive and well" with their wedding, while Amal's friend Jae Kim gushed about how happy the new bride was.

"I had never seen her smile like that," Jae said. "She has had that smile now for almost a year straight!"
