Five of the best beauty gadgets!

Triona McCarthy

Sweet divine Mary Mother of Gucci, there are brand new beauty gadgets and tools flooding the market at the moment, and it’s only February. But do we really need any of them?!

I’m such a sucker for a good beauty device as anything that makes my life easier gets a big, well-manicured thumbs-up from me. I’ve tested and trialled trillions over the years so I know a thing or two about what is worth parting your hard-earned dosh for.

Anyhoo, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll have heard excited whispers about the arrival of the Dyson Airstrait (€499.99, dyson.ie). So what’s all the fuss about, I hear you ask? Well, it’s a wet-to-dry straightening tool that uses air and doesn’t have hot plates, so your hair won’t get damaged. I know it’s expensive but you can’t put a price on keeping your hair healthy, and it does a great job at getting my hair sleek and dry so I’m a fan.

I’m also a long-time fan of the ghd, and the new ghd Chronos (€329, ghdhair.com) is a great new addition to the range. With hair health also at the forefront, it has motion responsive technology that continuously adapts to your styling movements. This means that it delivers a heat monitoring accuracy at the optimum temperature of 185C for one stroke HD results.

I recently went to a SharkNinja press launch to see what they had coming down the line for us and yes the Ninja airfryer people are the same people who bring us Shark and as you might already know, I’m a fan of the Shark SpeedStyle Full Suite (€289.95, brownthomas.com) as it creates a high-gloss finish with its five-styler attachments. I love using the RapidGloss Finisher to banish any frizz and flyaways from my hair.

So enough about hair, what about skin?

If you want to transform your skin from within, the Lyma Laser Starter Kit (€2,399, brownthomas.com) is said to be the world’s most powerful at-home beauty device. Its low-level laser therapy reaches the base layer of the dermis, transforming the skin from within in as little as 12 weeks and is endorsed by A-list facialists, dermatologists and plastic surgeons. I know it’s expensive but if you fancy salon-grade treatments at home with zero recovery time, it’s a great investment long-term.

Haumea Skincare Light Therapy Mask Device, €149.99, haumeaskincare.com

And finally, you can’t go on Instagram these days without seeing Victoria Beckham, Trinny Woodall and Kate Lawler wearing red LED masks. Light therapy is all the rage, my dears, and it works by sending light waves deep into the skin’s layers to trigger natural intracellular reactions at a molecular level. Irish brand Haumea Skincare’s Light Therapy Mask Device (€149.99, haumeaskincare.com) promotes skin health, stimulates collagen production and reduces the signs of ageing. It also has a customisable setting to tailor your light therapy sessions to address specific skincare concerns. Best of all, you’ll scare your husband and kids away while wearing it!
