Adam Idah has vowed to deliver more goals for Celtic after he marked his home debut for the Bhoys with two goals.

The Cork native had his first outing in the Celtic shirt after last week’s loan move from Norwich City, as a sub in a 1-1 draw away to Aberdeen but when trusted with a starting role away to Hibernian on Wednesday night, Idah was crucial as his two penalties earned the Bhoys a badly-needed win.

“It was an amazing feeling to score in the 90th minute, and to get three points topped it all off. To be honest, there was nothing going through my mind but to score,” Idah said after the game.

"I missed a few chances which I was frustrated with, but I’ve taken penalties throughout my whole career and I think I’ve only missed one, so I was quite confident taking the penalty and thankfully it went in. I’ve said before that I’ve always wanted to play for this club and to score, especially last minute in front of the fans, was such an amazing feeling so I was delighted. But it’s time to focus on the next game.

"To see the fans and the way they reacted to the goal was unbelievable, but I know myself how big this club is to everyone. It’s amazing, so I just want to keep on scoring goals and get three points on the table each week.

“Every single person has welcomed me, whether that’s the players, the staff, everyone at the training ground, and the fans have been unbelievable with me, especially on social media, and I’ve seen it all around the city. I’m enjoying life here and hopefully I can keep scoring goals.”

Frustrated by the lack of opportunities at Norwich, Idah arrived in Glasgow determined to make the most of his chance. “I want to get minutes here and develop as a player, and whether that’s coming off the bench or starting, I’ll take it,” he said. 'I’m still young and to be fair to the gaffer, he’s given me that opportunity and I’m happy I’ve repaid him.'

Boss Brendan Rodgers said Idah’s record from the penalty spot – including Ireland duty- was a factor in his arrival. “When I was assessing Adam before bringing him in, that was one of the key things – he’s taken six penalties out of six before, and he took one against Holland for the Republic of Ireland, a real pressure penalty,” Rodgers said.

“He’s confident and I can just see how he trains as well. He knows he’s a penalty taker, and against David Marshall, who’s a really experienced goalkeeper, I thought he finished it so well and I’m absolutely delighted for him.”
