The Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano rematch has been postponed due to a medical issue with Mike Tyson.

According to a statement from the promoters Most Valuable Promotions, a new date for the show – which was due to take place in the home of the Dallas Cowboys on July 20 – will be announced on June 7.

Taylor was expected to earn a $6m purse when she defended her World super lightweight title against Amanda Serrano. Tyson was due to fight social media influencer and co-founder of MVP Jake Paul on the co-lead of the bill.

However, the entire show was thrown into doubt last weekend when 57-year old Tyson, the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, fell ill on the flight in the US.

According to the statement issued by MVP, Tyson had a medical consultation on Thursday after the ulcer flare up on the flight. “The recommendation is for Mike Tyson to do minimal light training over the next few weeks and then return to full training with no limitations.

“Both Mike and Jake are in agreement that it is only fair that both athletes have equal training time to prepare for this important match and are able to compete at the highest level.

“The health and well-being of athletes is our top priority, and we fully support Mike in taking the necessary time to allow him to perform at the level he expects of himself.

“Mike is expected to return to his training schedule in the coming weeks and is eager to get back in the ring. MVP anticipate rescheduling the match for later this year at AT &T Stadium, and we look forward to an exciting and well-prepared contest between two exceptional athletes. The new date of the fight will be announced by next Friday, June 7.”

There is no mention of the Taylor/Serrano fight in the statement but it is unrealistic for the fight to go ahead on July 20 in the Dallas Cowboy stadium without the Tyson v Paul clash.

Despite the optimistic note in the statement it remains to be seen whether Tyson will ever be passed medically fit to return to the ring.
