Powerscourt Hotel review: Celtic Tiger hotspot still has the wow factor

Today it offers more muted luxury in its country setting, with a stunning spa and exceptional breakfast to boot

The stunning grounds of Powerscourt Hotel in Co Wicklow

The Powerscourt Hotel is one of those classic Irish spots that feels like it’s long been part of the furniture. When you look at the building — a curved, Palladian-style design reminiscent of a Georgian crescent — you might think it’s stood in this spot for centuries. In fact, it opened in 2007.

Back then, it was the Ritz-Carlton, Powerscourt, and seen as a symbol of the Celtic Tiger, with a Gordon Ramsay restaurant and conga line of celebrity weddings. Over the years, a few different owners have taken the helm, but it’s now owned by the MHL Collection, which also has Brooks Hotel and the Glenlo Abbey on its books.
