I know from driving around the country this “summer” that weather and road conditions can change dramatically.
So if you’re holidaying at home make sure you have the usual areas covered. Prime among them should be correctly inflated tyres. Apart from being safer, you benefit from better fuel consumption.
Ensure coolant, oil and washer fluid levels are correct and that wipers and lights are all working properly.
The advice, outlined by Skoda, says it is always useful to have a first aid kit – you never know what little emergencies can arise.
Bring plenty of water because dehydration can cause fatigue and a dip in concentration. Make sure there is enough for everyone in the car.
Check the air conditioning doesn’t need regassing, and that it is used regularly even if it isn’t hot, as this will ensure the compressor and seals are well lubricated.
Above all plan your journey ahead of time so you are not rushing. Factor in a quick 15-minute break every two hours.
