When a child grows up with a narcissistic parent, instead of questioning why their parent is so critical, ignoring, or intruding of them, they will believe that they are the problem, that there’s something fundamentally wrong with them and they deserve the way they are treated.

They grow up into being Hyper-Dependent (people pleasers, co-dependents) or Hyper-Independents (fiercely independent to their own detriment) both terrified of rejection or abandonment.
