Why this Kerry woman went from hairdressing to dairy farming – and designing farm workwear

Rita Maunsell sold her house and moved her family to Limerick to milk cows — and an obstacle in her new career led to an opportunity as she created a milking gown specifically for women

Rita Maunsell had spent 20 years as a hairdresser when she and her partner Mike Ryan decided to sell their home and land in Kerry and move to Limerick to start dairy farming.

While some of her family and friends thought she was “mad moving from the Kingdom to an empty farm in Limerick”, Rita says it has been the best thing she and Mike have ever done.
