EastEnders fans 'work out' who Ian Beale is speaking to as he hides secret

EastEnders fans are convinced that Jane Beale (Laurie Brett) is about to make a return to Walford as her former husband Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) acts very suspiciously.

EastEnders: Ian reveals Jane will not be coming back

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the episode set to air on Wednesday, July 10, but is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.

EastEnders devotees are speculating that Jane Beale (played by Laurie Brett) is poised for a return to Walford as her ex-husband Ian (Adam Woodyatt) starts behaving rather oddly in upcoming episodes.

Jane was wedded to Ian from 2007 to 2011 and the couple tied the knot again in 2015 and exited the Square in 2017 under Max Branning's (Jake Wood) instructions, but she always considered Bobby Beale as her own child.

She was a key character in the BBC soap, having joined in 2004 and being one of Ian's numerous wives. However, her reputation was tarnished when it was revealed she played a part in the mystery surrounding Lucy Beale's (Hetti Bywater) demise.

Jane had been like a mother to Ian's son, Bobby and when he accidentally killed his sister by striking her on the head with a jewellery box, Jane relocated Lucy's body to the woods to prevent him from facing any repercussions, reports the Daily Star.

When the truth surfaced, Jane departed Walford after Max was nearly incarcerated for being accused of murdering Lucy. Although she hasn't been seen since 2017, fans are convinced she is on the brink of making a comeback due to Ian's mysterious behaviour.

As Bobby Beale (Clay Milner-Russell) prepares to mark his 21st birthday, he notes that not all his family members are keen on celebrating as he hints at Cindy Beale's (Michelle Collins) animosity towards him. EastEnders followers will be aware that Bobby is scheduled to leave Walford this year.

In Wednesday's episode of The Square, Ian is seen stepping out of his house to take a covert phone call. "Listen, I told you, I call you, not you call me", he says to the unknown caller.

His conversation is cut short by Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) and Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman), who question what's troubling the businessman.

Ian is then spotted strolling through the market, engrossed in his mobile phone. He's halted by Anna Knight (Molly Rainford) who proposes throwing a surprise party for her boyfriend Bobby at The Vic in a fortnight.

Ian retorts: "Bobby is like me, he doesn't like surprises", as he outright rejects the idea before walking away.

The latest EastEnders spoilers hint that Ian is concealing something from his family, leading some fans to believe he is communicating with Jane Beale.
