Gary Lineker caught BBC viewers off guard with a surprising comment about Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Portugal crashed out of the European Championship with a penalty shootout defeat to France, with Joao Felix missing the decisive spot-kick.

Ronaldo played the full duration and scored for Portugal during the shootout, but before extra-time he needed attention from physios as manager Roberto Martinez delivered a team-talk.


Rio Ferdinand, who was on punditry for the game, spotted  Ronaldo getting massaged on both legs and said: 'He has two masseuses on his legs there! What's going on there? One on each leg.'

Lineker then appeared to make a crude sex joke as replied: 'Thankfully, he hasn't got three.'

His comment sparked laughter among the BBC pundits, in particular, Ferdinand.

Former Portuguese international Jose Fonte, quickly tried to move the subject on as he asked: 'Can I?'

The BBC presenter's joke also sparked hysteria on social media with one writing: 'Nah Gary Lineker is wild for that.'

One person wrote: 'Did Lineker just make a third leg joke about Ronaldo,' while another posted with three laughing emojis: 'Gary Lineker joking about Ronaldo having a masseuse on his third leg.'

Another BBC viewer said that Lineker's comment 'killed' them with laughter.' 

Somebody else tweeted: 'Gary Lineker it’s not even 10pm mate - doing third leg jokes at the Euros jesus mate!'

It was another tough night for Ronaldo, who with Portugal's elimination, failed to score at Euro 2024.

Ronaldo has said that the tournament would likely be his last Euros, with questions now to be raised over his international future after five lacklustre displays for Portugal. 

The Al-Nassr star though might have an eye on playing in the 2026 World Cup - when he would be 39-years-old.
