EXCLUSIVEHere's why Trump's own ambassador to Iceland is still '110% MAGA' and brushing off his snub by last-minute endorsement of political opponent Sam Brown in Nevada

  • Whoever wins primary goes up against Senator Jacky Rosen in November

Voters in Nevada are heading to the polls on Tuesday to cast ballots in a series of primaries including the Nevada Republican Senate primary. Whoever wins the race will take on vulnerable Democratic Senator Jacky Rosen come November.

Republican Sam Brown has been leading in the polls but his opponent Jeff Gunter has run as a '110 percent pro-Trump' candidate.

Gunter served in the Trump administration as the ex-president's ambassador to Iceland from July 2019 through the end of Trump's four years in the White House. But his record has hampered his political campaign.

Late Sunday, Trump came out and endorsed his Republican opponent Sam Brown just days before the election.

'You know the swamp is deep and even President Trump needs help from all of us in the America first policies and those of us who love America,' Gunter told DailyMail.com after voting in the primary in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

'I'm still 110%  pro-Trump,' Gunter said.

Both Gunter and Brown showed up for Trump's rally in Las Vegas on Sunday. Trump mentioned Brown briefly during his speech but stopped short of endorsing him from the podium.

But in a Truth Social post on Sunday night, after thousands had already cast ballots early in the primary, Trump did make an endorsement.

Trump called Brown a 'FEARLESS AMERICAN PATRIOT' and noted he is the recipient of a Purple Heart.

Brown was badly burned after his vehicle went over a roadside bomb while he was serving in Afghanistan in 2008.

Trump said Brown will 'fight tirelessly' for priorities such as border security and the economy.

Brown was polling ahead in the primary ahead of the endorsement but it's expected to give him a final surge of momentum heading into Tuesday.

Gunter told DailyMail.com that he understands the pressure Trump is under.

'I think the important thing is for all of us to get up and fight and not back down,' Gunter said.

Gunter slammed more establishment Republicans in Washington. He argued the 'DC elites are really panicking what's going on right now.'

He pointed out that the balance of power in the Senate is on the line in November and argued America First supporters are excited and coming out.

'Most importantly it has to do with President Trump, having those individuals that have his back, that are supporter, or whether you want another Mitch McConnell Republican in there,' Gunter said.

When asked who he would support as Republican Senate leader if elected, Gunter kept his cards close to his chest.
