EXCLUSIVEInside the Republican 'payback' plan for Trump's hush money trial 'persecution'

Republicans are striking back against the White House and Democrats for Donald Trump's 'politically motivated' persecution, enacting payback by forcing a traffic jam in the Senate.

Republican senators have vowed to delay the appointment of politicians and judges in addition to stalling the movement of legislation.

They claim that the White House has 'made a mockery of the rule of law' and have intentionally altered 'policies in un-American ways,' in the wake of former President Donald Trump's historic guilty conviction in his New York hush money case.

So far, 13 GOP lawmakers have signed a pledge, led by Sen. Mike Lee-R-Utah, to muck up Democrats' political maneuvers.

'There's so many things that happened during the trial that were wrong,' Lee told DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview. 'The charges themselves were very clearly designed just for the purpose of lawfare.'

Democrats 'just convicted the last standing impediment between Joe Biden and his second term in office.'

'It's the opponent to the incumbent president; and it's not as though Joe Biden can wash his hands of this and claim that he and his political team had nothing to do with it.'

And if Republicans win back committee control by winning the Senate majority in November, those who whipped up the case against Trump will be themselves investigated and possibly charged.

'There will be congressional oversight if we have the opportunity to do that, which I think we will, without a question. There will be aggressive, thorough oversight here,' Lee, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee told DailyMail.com.

The Republican from Utah adamantly reiterated the whole trial was 'politically motivated.'

'To say it's a sketchy legal theory is an insult the sketchy legal theories everywhere,' he joked of the trial.

The Republican's maneuver will have the biggest impact on judicial and foreign service nominees.

As a result Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., will be forced to burn valuable floor time getting votes on each nominee individually.

'The White House has made a mockery of the rule of law and fundamentally altered our policies in un-American ways,' says the pledge the 13 lawmakers signed.

'As a Senate Republican conference, we are unwilling to aid and abet this White House in its project to tear this country apart.'

'To that end, we will not 1) allow any increase to non-security related funding for this administration, or any appropriations bill which funds partisan lawfare ; 2) vote to confirm this administration's political and judicial appointees; and 3) allow expedited consideration and passage of Democrats legislation or authorities that are not directly relevant to the safety of the American people.'

The pledge is signed by Republican Sens. Lee, J.D. Vance, Ohio, Tommy Tuberville, Ala., Eric Schmitt, Mo., Marsha Blackburn, Tenn., Rick Scott, Fla., Roger Marshall, Kan., Marco Rubio, Fla., Josh Hawley, Mo., Ron Johnson, Wis., Joni Ernst, Iowa, Rand Paul, Ky., and Steve Daines, Mont.

In addition to consolidating power towards the Senate Republican conference's conservative flank, the letter also highlights those in the conference who have expressed loyalty to Trump.

Two of the signatories, Vance and Rubio, are thought to be contenders for the expected Republican presidential nominee's vice presidential pick.

The letter was first published on Lee's X account last Friday, less that 24 hours after Trump was found guilty of 34 felony counts related to falsifying business documents to conceal hush money payments to ex-porn star Stormy Daniels.

Still, three appointments squeaked through the Senate this week despite the GOP's obstruction efforts.

This week, two judges for Washington, D.C. and another official for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission were all confirmed.

Sen. Marshall, who signed the letter, voted to confirm the nuclear nominee. After casting his vote, he said he was more focused on clogging up judicial nominations.

Lee had nothing to add on those who got confirmed or potential pledge defectors, but he did point to nominees only needing a simple majority of 51 votes to get through.

For the Senate, he told DailyMail.com, things are going to be different between now and now and the year.
