On 27 June 2024, the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) successfully released two rescued pangolins back into their natural habitat, after receiving care from the DNPW-WCP Rehabilitation Centre. The first pangolin, rescued as a milk-dependent pup in December 2022, was nurtured until it was strong and independent enough to thrive in the wild. The second pangolin, which was rescued on 14 February 2024, required extra care until it reached a suitable weight for tracking devices to be attached to him. Released in different locations due to their solitary nature, both pangolins are now being monitored to ensure they adapt well and to gather insights on their ecological needs for future conservation efforts. This achievement was made possible with the support of Oak Foundation, UNZA Veterinary School of Medicine, Caring For Conservation Fund gGmbH, the Pangolin Crisis Fund, Niner Juliet, and Conservation Lower Zambezi . A special appreciation goes out to the children under the Conservation Lower Zambezi school programmes who joined WCP Pangolin Programme Manager Suwilanji Sichone for an interactive talk about pangolin conservation. Their enthusiasm and interest in conservation was lovely to witness. #PangolinConservation #WildlifeRescue #ProtectOurPlanet #ConservationHeroes #DNPW #WildlifeRelease

On 17 June 2024, the DNPW-WCP Rehabilitation Centre received a male, white-bellied tree pangolin weighing 2 kg, rescued from poachers in Lumwana. Sadly, it had a severe tail injury and despite our best efforts and support from the University of Zambia School of Veterinary Medicine Clinic, the pangolin succumbed to the injuries. White-bellied pangolins typically weigh between 1.5 - 2.2 kg, and range in length from 30 - 100 cm. They are arboreal creatures, that rely on their tails to climb and live in trees, making such injuries devastating. We urge the community to protect these harmless creatures. If you see a pangolin, please report it to the nearest police station or the Department of National Parks & Wildlife office. A special thanks to FQM Zambia and Barrick Lumwana Copper Mine for sponsoring the transportation of the pangolin. #WildlifeConservation #WildlifeProtection #ProtectthePangolins #ConservationEfforts #WCP #DNPW #CommunityAwareness #EndPoaching #protectourwildlife

The CSL Fun Run and ZCP Carnivore Cup Final was a resounding success! Last Saturday witnessed a gathering of over 6,000 individuals for a remarkable sports event hosted by Conservation South Luangwa (CSL), Zambian Carnivore Programme, and Chipembele Wildlife Education Trust | Zambia, backed by WCP Zambia, Project Luangwa, and Elephant Charge Zambia. The theme for this year, 'protecting the environment for people and wildlife', served to enhance our conservation awareness initiatives through sports. The festivities featured a 10K run, the finale of the ZCP football tournament, and a variety of entertaining activities such as sack races, egg and spoon races, and tug-of-war. Renowned footballer Collins Mbesuma participated, representing Tribal Textiles in the tug-of-war final against the victorious Zambia Police Service. The event also showcased volleyball, netball, and aerobics, and a great entertainment lineup including live theatre, musical acts, and traditional dances. #Partnerships #CommunityInvolvement #ConservationPride #CSLFunRun #WildlifeConservation #ZambiaWildlife #ConservationEducation #CommunityEngagement #ProtectOurWildlife

Today, WCP received an incredible donation from the Grade Four pupils of American International School of Lusaka! Through their amazing entrepreneurship initiative, these dedicated young students successfully raised funds to support our wildlife protection efforts. Our journey with these aspiring conservationists began over two years ago during our ‘School Visits’ as part of the Conservation Careers Fair Zambia initiative. Through these sessions, the children demonstrated a special love for pangolins and expressed a strong desire to protect these gentle creatures from the illegal wildlife trade. It's a privilege to see the profound impact of our interaction on these young minds and witness their dedication to safeguarding our precious wildlife. Thank you, American International School of Lusaka Grade Four class, for your inspiring efforts and support! #WildlifeConservation #YoungConservationists #ProtectthePangolins #ConservationHeroes
