The government has identified three key development areas for the country for the next five years, including driving inclusive economic growth and job creation, reducing poverty, and building a capable, ethical and developmental state. During her keynote at the SAACI National Annual Congress 2024, Minister of Tourism, Patricia De Lille, said these three priorities must be introduced into MICE industry strategies. “We have a unique opportunity to redesign the next five years of tourism, together,” Minister de Lille said. “To continue growing the MICE industry, the Department of Tourism is committed to working with partners like SAACI, whose mission is to advocate on legislative, regulatory and legal issues that directly impact the industry.” Over the next two days, as we attend the SAACI National Annual Congress 2024, she encouraged attendees to identify the industry’s regulatory and legislative stumbling blocks so we can start finding solutions to address them. “We also need to demonstrate how we will use technology to grow the industry and improve the events and conference digital infrastructure,” she added. “We need to be at the forefront of what’s new and exciting to maintain South Africa’s position as a top events and conference destination.” From 28 until 30 July, MICE industry leaders will be laying out a plan to go #BeyondEventing.
