HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. (WCJB) - Gilchrist County Sheriff’s deputies say they are beefing up their security at Ginnie Springs for the 4th of July holiday following two deadly shootings over Memorial Day weekend.

TV20 contacted officials at Ginnie Springs to confirm any entrance limits that may be in place. Although they did not specify a specific capacity limit, officials said they would stop selling day passes at 4 p.m. to limit capacity. According to the website, guests who enter the park on a day pass must upgrade to a camp pass if they stay after dark.

TV20 also confirmed that rangers will patrol the campgrounds to locate vacant campsites. Once someone vacates the space, another camper can take over.

This is the first major holiday since two people died in shootings when an estimated 20,000 people were at the springs.
