GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - The weather team at WCJB TV20, your local station, is launching First Alert Weather. It’s our commitment to provide the most accurate weather coverage for North Central Florida - first!

Our promise to be first is about ensuring people in North Central Florida are prepared for any weather event likely to impact their day. TV20 will highlight severe weather events on our TV channels, website, apps, streaming, and social media with our new First Alert branding.

What’s a First Alert Day?

When TV20 Chief Meteorologist Mike Potter forecasts significant weather events, he will declare a First Alert Weather Day to give viewers time to prepare. On these days, the weather will be TV20′s focus.

Some of the severe weather events that could trigger a First Alert Day include:

  • Possible Tornadoes
  • Strong Winds
  • Hurricane or Tropical Storm Conditions
  • Widespread Flooding
  • Dangerous Winter Weather
