GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A University of Florida employee and men’s water polo club coach was fired after reports of inappropriate behavior including sharing beds with athletes.

According to the Title IX report, polo club leadership alleged David William Huelsman, 43, of Gainesville, shared beds with athletes during away matches. He requested certain players share a bed with him and was “overly touchy.”

The incidents caused some members to leave the club.

Huelsman worked as an IT employee for the university and his contract was “non-renewed” on March 8.

All the club members listed in the initial report were contacted but didn’t say they were harmed. The only one alleging harm was the person who made the report.

Sexual assault and harassment in schools are considered sex discrimination under Title IX because the actions deprive students of equal access to education. The investigator determined the allegations did not rise to the level of a Title IX Gender Equity violation.

At Gainesville High School, Huelsman has coached water polo and baseball.
