GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Welcome back to another Tech Tuesday. I’m Bethany Gaffey with UF Innovate, and today I’ll be chatting with Phyllis Marty, the CEO of CareerSource North Central Florida, a local workforce development board that trains and connects people with jobs. Could you tell us why CareerSource North Central Florida is important?

Sure. We’re the local workforce board for Alachua and Bradford counties, and we help connect job seekers to employers that are looking to fill positions.

How exactly does CareerSource help people find jobs?

So we do assessments based on their education, their employment history, and even some online tools to kind of find out where their aptitude and their interests and skills are, and we try to match those with the employer’s requirements.

It sounds like you have a lot of tools and resources to do that. Could you tell us a little bit more about what Metrix eLearning is?

Sure. We’ve partnered with Metrix eLearning to offer over 6,000 courses online at no cost to any Alachua County or Bradford County resident. They don’t have to come in, they don’t have to register with us. All they have to do is go online to our website, put in their zip code, and then they have 6,000 different courses available to them. It’s all the way from entry level, all of Microsoft Office, all the way up to industry recognized technology certifications.

What advice do you have for someone that doesn’t have a computer at home? How can they too access Metrix eLearning?

Any local community resource that has a computer lab, the library, even here at CareerSource, they can access the internet and access these courses.

If someone does want to come in and check out CareerSource North Central Florida, where should they go?

So our main office in Alachua County is in Gainesville, and it’s in the public shopping center on Main Street, and then we have another full service office in Bradford County located in Starke beside the courthouse.
