Morgan County Sheriff's Office warns of latest scam, offers advice to keep you from losing money

The Morgan County Sheriff's Office is warning of the latest scam going around.

According to the sheriff's office, someone is calling people posing as a local bond company and requests money to get a loved one out of jail.

The sheriff's office says, if someone asks for money, credit card, gift cards or app payments (Cashapp, Venmo, PayPal, etc.) over the phone, that's a good sign of a scam. Bonds require paperwork, and you would need to meet with them if it were real.

To avoid losing your money, the sheriff's office has provided the following tips:

1. Verify, Verify, Verify before sending any money

2. Hang up, if it's important they'll get in touch with you

3. Look the company up and call the main number listed

4. Don't take anyone's word over the phone, especially if they call out of blue

The sheriff's office says, as usual, it does not conduct business over the phone.
