“Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe, and I named them Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe. And I named the adults. The dad's name is Jack and the mom's name is Lele,” said Ashton Simpson and Rickylynn Proctor.

A video posted on Facebook over the weekend shows the bear family climbing in a dumpster at the Ramblewood apartment complex in Fort Payne.

“They are out here probably three or four times a week,” said Chelsea Wilson, a resident at Ramblewood. “They are super nosy—like if you're out here, your kids are out here, they are going to come out.”

The head of maintenance at the complex tells me wildlife services is aware of the bears. However, they cannot do anything about it at the moment.

Chris Nicholas said, “The land back here behind us is government land—that bear has already been relocated because they had tags in their ears. There is nothing they can do about it.”

But if they are unable to relocate the bears, he wants to make sure everyone is safe.

"But my question would be, could they not build a fence around back here, around behind the apartment, to keep us from having them? We got people around here that like to get close—that's not a good thing.” Nicholas said.

While black bears may be beautiful and seem friendly, they are not. The National Wildlife Refuge System of Decatur tells me if you are faced with a black bear, stay calm, don't run, avoid eye contact, and do not play dead. Fight back if you must.
