The City of Huntsville has approved a $7.1 million contract with Bailey-Harris Construction Company to develop Hays Farm Central Park, a new nine-acre urban park in south Huntsville.

The park, set to open in fall 2025, will feature a gazebo, windmill, lagoon, waterfall, pavilion, and restrooms.

Additional amenities include a fitness court in partnership with Arts Huntsville, walking paths, ample parking, and LED lighting.

The park will also connect to the city's greenway network.

District 3 Council Member Jennie Robinson expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “It is exciting to see this project come to fruition. This park is destined to become a favorite destination and a central gathering place for south Huntsville residents.”

Hays Farm Central Park will be located on the west side of Haysland Road, across from Grissom High School. Access will also be available through a tunnel from the eastern side of the road, where the new Hays Farm Sports Park is nearing completion. This sports park will feature two regulation-size multipurpose fields for soccer, lacrosse, and other activities, along with a restroom pavilion, 120 lighted parking spaces, perimeter fencing, landscaping, and irrigation.

“These parks are all about value-added benefits to the citizens of Huntsville,” said James Gossett, Director of Parks & Recreation. “Hays Farm Park will have a similar look and feel to Big Spring Park, with its lagoon, wide sidewalks, and water features. It will be a place where people can enjoy the outdoors without needing to travel downtown.”

Construction of Hays Farm Central Park is expected to take about 14 months.
