WAAY 31 Photographer Shawn Bracey passes away

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our colleague and friend, Shawn Bracey, at his home in Florence. He was 60 years old.

Shawn brought boundless energy and a passion for helping others. His infectious zest for life kept us smiling through the good times and provided support during the challenging moments.

Shawn was no stranger to the Huntsville media market, beginning his career at WAAY in the late 80s. He later joined our friends at WHNT for several years before returning to WAAY briefly in the 2000s. In 2022, he rejoined us as a freelance photographer and eventually assumed the role of managing the Shoals Bureau in the Spring of 2023.

Shawn will be profoundly missed by his colleagues, friends, and the community he served.

"Shawn had true dedication for what he did and for the people he served," said Mike Wright, WAAY general manager and vice president.

"His passion was The Shoals. While we will miss his work, we will miss his smile and the joy he brought to WAAY most of all."

Final arrangements have not been determined at this time.
