If you plan to light your own fireworks this July Fourth holiday, you'll need to follow local rules.
We've asked for those guidelines from North Alabama counties, cities and towns. If a location is missing, that means leaders have yet to respond to our requests for information. We'll update this list through July 4 as we get more.
ARDMORE

Citizens are allowed to shoot fireworks inside the city limits.
ATHENS

Selling and using fireworks in the city limits are not allowed. Only permitted shows, such as the annual Fourth of July fireworks show by Tourism, are allowed.
FALKVILLE
It shall be unlawful and a misdemeanor for any person or entity to sell or offer to sell, at retail or at wholesale, or otherwise furnish to any person, firm, or corporation, any fireworks of any nature, type or description whatsoever within the municipal limits or the police jurisdiction of the town, except as specifically permitted in this article for seasonal retails sales, or to otherwise violate the provisions hereof.
It shall be unlawful for any person to shoot, fire, set off, ignite or discharge any fireworks of any classification, nature, type or description whatsoever, other than D.O.T. Class C common fireworks, within the municipal limits of the town.
FLORENCE
Please be aware of the city of Florence Ordinance regarding the use of fireworks.
An individual may detonate fireworks within the city limits between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. of the same day during the fireworks seasons defined in section 11-4(a).
On July 4th an individual may detonate fireworks within the city limits between the hours of 10:00 a.m. through 11:00 p.m. of the same day; and
It shall be unlawful for any person to ignite, explode, project, or otherwise fire or use or permit the ignition, explosion or projection of any fireworks upon, over, or onto the property of another, or ignite, explode, project, or otherwise fire and make use of any fireworks within ten (10) feet of any residence or dwelling.
It shall be unlawful for any person to ignite, explode, project, or otherwise fire or use or permit the ignition, explosion or projection of any fireworks upon, over, or onto any public property unless authorized by a special use permit from the city fire department for detonation of fireworks within the city limits.
Fireworks seasons means the dates of June 20 through July 10 and December 15 through January 2 of each year as set forth in Code of Ala. 1975, § 8-17-210.
FRANKLIN COUNTY

Franklin County does not have any rule or regulations on fireworks. The cities may have ordinances but not the county.
HARTSELLE

With the 4th of July approaching the Hartselle Police Department wants everyone to enjoy their time with friends and family.
However, the city does have an ordinance restricting the discharging and sale of any fireworks within the city limits of Hartselle. This seems contradictory due to several firework stands seen in the area.
These fireworks stands are not on property annexed in the city limits of Hartselle. Please keep this in mind and enjoy the many locations around Hartselle that provide fireworks shows for the public.
HOLLYWOOD

It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge or shoot fireworks of any description upon the sidewalks, roads, streets, highways, or any other public place with the corporate limits of the Town of Hollywood. Any person violating this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine of not mare than $100.
Basically you can shoot fireworks in your own yard. The town askes that everyone be considerate of their neighbors and do not shoot fireworks late into the night or early morning hours. We ask that everyone use the safest practice while setting off fireworks. Should an emergency arise, please call 911 for assistance.
HUNTSVILLE

Huntsville Fire & Rescue (HFR) would like to remind residents that certain fireworks are now permitted for use in the City of Huntsville, per an ordinance recently amended by the City Council.
Nonexplosive, nonaerial sparking devices, both ground-based and handheld, are legal to use, sell or purchase in the city limits of Huntsville. These fireworks include cylindrical and cone fountains, illuminating torches, wheels and ground spinners.
“As we approach the Fourth of July, we encourage Huntsville citizens to celebrate the holiday in a safe and responsible manner,” said Huntsville Fire Marshal Dan Wilkerson.
JACKSON COUNTY

Unless the State issues a No Burn ban, fireworks are allowed in the county. People should check with the city or town that they live to see if they have any local ordinances that would prohibit the use of fireworks.
LAUDERDALE COUNTY

Fireworks are generally allowed in the county. Our main complaints usually come from the noise produced late at night when everyone is already in bed.
LEIGHTON

As long as you’re being safe with them, we will allow fireworks from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 4.
LIMESTONE COUNTY

While unincorporated Limestone County has no specific rules, following are some good guidelines:
As a friendly reminder, please keep the following guidelines in mind when using fireworks:
1. Safety and courtesy are paramount - please ensure you are being mindful of the safety of yourself and those around you.
2. Refrain from shooting fireworks at people under any circumstances.
3. Avoid shooting fireworks at or over houses, as debris can potentially cause damage by landing in pools and on roofs.
4. Do not shoot fireworks at vehicles or from inside vehicles for everyone's safety.
5. Kindly refrain from causing noise disturbances by keeping your neighbors up all night with fireworks. Let's show consideration for others while enjoying the festivities.
LITTLEVILLE

• Obey all local laws regarding the use of fireworks. Fireworks are illegal within the Littleville Vfd Coverage Area.
• Know your fireworks; read the cautionary labels and performance descriptions before igniting.
• A responsible adult SHOULD supervise all firework activities. Never give fireworks to children.
• Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Save your alcohol for after the show.
• Wear safety glasses when shooting fireworks.
• Light one firework at a time and then quickly move away.
• Use fireworks OUTDOORS in a clear area; away from buildings and vehicles.
• Never relight a “dud” firework. Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water.
• Always have a bucket of water and charged water hose nearby.
• Never carry fireworks in your POCKET or shoot them into METAL or GLASS containers.
• Do not experiment with homemade fireworks.
• Dispose of spent fireworks by wetting them down and place in a metal trash can away from any building or combustible materials until the next day.
MADISON

MORGAN COUNTY

In Morgan County, fireworks are legal unless they live in a municipality that prohibits them like Hartselle and Decatur.
OWENS CROSS ROADS

Fireworks can be ignited one week before July 4 through one week after. They cannot be shot after 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursday or after midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
RUSSELLVILLE

Fireworks can be used and/or shot in the city of Russellville until 10:30 p.m. each night from June 29 through July 6.
SCOTTSBORO
Fireworks are allowed to be used from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 29 through July 5.
