Central Alabama man accused of using Snapchat to solicit juveniles in Morgan County

A central Alabama man was booked in the Morgan County Jail after authorities say he tried to meet two juveniles he’d approached online.

Austin Carpenter was driving an Alabama Search and Rescue vehicle when trying to meet the juveniles.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office arrested Austin Damon Doen Carpenter, 29, of Montevallo on Saturday and charged him with electronic solicitation of a child.

The sheriff’s office said it learned Thursday that Carpenter was using Snapchat “to have communication of a sexual nature with two juveniles” and planned to meet them Saturday.

Carpenter was driving an Alabama Search and Rescue vehicle when he arrived early Saturday morning, according to the sheriff’s office. That’s when deputies met and arrested him.

Bond was set at $5,000 and he was released Sunday evening.
