2 dead after alleged murder-suicide in Sheffield

Two people are dead after what police believe to be a murder-suicide in Colbert County.

According to Sheffield Police, officers were dispatched to 516 Wilson Dam Avenue for a possible suicide about 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police say they observed a Tuscumbia man, identified as 43-year-old Tommy Ray Burcham, lying face down in the grass in an open field across from the residence with multiple gunshot wounds.

During further investigation, officers were notified of another gunshot victim inside the residence.

Officers found a Sheffield man, identified as 34-year-old Raleigh Samuel Lemaster, deceased from a single gunshot wound.

Police say it was reported they were close friends and had gotten into a disagreement, resulting in what they believe to be Lemaster first shooting Burcham and then shooting himself. Police are investigating this case as a murder-suicide.

All information and evidence collected at the scene will be turned over to the Colbert County District Attorney's Office, police say.
