The annual Women Honoring Women event is North Alabama's beacon of female empowerment, celebrating inspirational women in the Madison County area. This year's event on Sept. 21 held special significance as the WEDC Foundation marks its 25th anniversary.

The event's central focus is to empower women by showcasing the achievements and stories of remarkable females in the community. Attendees gathered in the beautifully renovated Saturn Ballroom at the Von Braun Center, which provided a visually stunning backdrop for the unforgettable evening.

Over the past 25 years, the WEDC Foundation has played a pivotal role in supporting women through mentorship and financial assistance, helping them pursue 2-year or 4-year degrees and turn their dreams into reality.

The Women Honoring Women event, in it's 22nd year, serves as the WEDC Foundation's largest fundraiser of the year. The funds raised are critical for the foundation to continue its essential work in empowering and supporting women in the community.

Five remarkable women, Alka Bhargav, Joan Smith, Teneshia Daniels, Beth Richardson and Marie Newberry, were honored for their significant contributions in making Madison County a better place to live and work.

The women were nominated by their peers for their outstanding contributions to the community. These nominations recognized their professional accomplishments, leadership qualities, and exemplary character.

The event also highlighted the WEDC Foundation's scholarship program, which has benefited over 200 women during the past 25 years. This program offers mentorship and financial assistance, creating a support system for women pursuing higher education and personal growth opportunities.

The annual event is a testament to the strength, resilience, and achievements of women in North Alabama. WAAY 31's Marie Waxel served as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening.
