Demetrius Hurry joined WAAY 31 in May 2023.

Before WAAY 31, he was with WPMI in Mobile, Alabama, as a news photographer.

Demetrius lived close by the coast all his life and was born in Virginia and raised in Foley, Alabama.

News has been a big part of Demetrius’ life. As a child he alway enjoyed watching Eric Reynolds every morning before the school bus arrived.

Demetrius is a proud alumnus of Alabama A&M University, where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications Media with a concentration in Production.

He is a member of The National Association of Black Journalists.

While at AAMU, Demetrius interned at WJAB-TV on campus as a student anchor/reporter. One of his biggest stories was announcing the Marching Maroon & White had been invited to participate in the 97th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

He credits his mentors Semaj Robinson, Bobby Jones, and Latoyia Clemons for the news experiences during his time on the hill.

When not doing news, Demetrius loves to workout, watch “Law & Order: SVU” and show love & support to his HBCU alma mater.
