About

Funded by the Directorate-General for International Cooperation (DGIS), Netherlands, UNICEF led the implementation of AWSA II programme in 8 countries in Africa from 2020 – 2024. ASWA II remained a flagship programme for UNICEF to drive its agenda of universal water and sanitation coverage and Leaving No One Behind, especially in off-track countries. The successes and lessons learned from the ASWA programme will be instrumental in accelerating sanitation and water progress towards the attainment of the SDG6 targets across counties and regions.

Knowledge Management (KM), learning and exchange remained at the core of the programme for leveraging lessons from ASWA into the global learning agenda. UNICEF at HQ, Regional and Country levels continued to prioritize and lead the production of key knowledge products, especially on key thematic areas including system strengthening, climate resilience, sector finance, gender and WASH, etc. Under the ASWA programme period from 2020 – June 2024, a total of 80 knowledge products were developed in topics of emerging interests.

UNICEF would like to extend its deepest appreciation and gratitude to DGIS for the gracious support that enabled the development of this knowledge compendium as a sector resource in fostering the culture of adaptive learning and cross-fertilization of lessons and insights towards our common vision of ensuring “Sanitation and Water for All”.
