A stunning location !

Review of Angama Mara
Reviewed 31 Oct 2022
In the last week have returned from a fantastic safari holiday staying at this beautiful location with its stunning views. We were first met by the lovely John, who collected us from our overnight accommodation in Nairobi & then escorted us to Wilson for our departure to the Mara.
At Angama our accommodation was excellent, very clean & well appointed.
George, the Manager, was very welcoming & had a great sense of humour. We were very well looked after by another George, our butler. Truly a lovely chap who always greeted us with such a warm welcome whatever the time of day & nothing was too much trouble.
Our excellent guide & driver, Elly, was just so keen & full of enthusiasm to make sure we got the best experience possible & this enabled us seeing the fantastic wildlife, including the Big 5, within the 5 days we were with him, plus finding beautiful locations for an outdoor breakfast & coffee stops.
Saying that, all the staff we came into contact with, whether being escorted to & from our 'tent' during the hours of darkness or those we just casually met, were so polite & welcoming.
We experienced some lovely food at all meals & Evans, the chef, was only too pleased to share his recipes if asked. A tour around the kitchen garden followed by lunch there was a real treat too. Head gardener, Jeremy, showed us around & then freshly picked various items that he then prepared to accompany our lunch.
My wife took advantage of a couple of massages & she was very professionally looked after by Celine, receiving the treatments with the back drop of the Mara from our tent, unbelievable !
A real blessing was the inclusive laundry service, as for when travelling lightly this is a real plus👍🏻
So if you're looking for somewhere special to be looked after & get the full safari experience then look no further, you'll not be disappointed !

Dear aesica,
On behalf of the Angama team, thank you for sharing your experience here - which some interested folks have already found helpful. We were particularly pleased to see that you appreciated the attitude of our team of askaris - the security men & women who accompany guests at night - as even those who are learning English take pride in ensuring that guests feel welcome, and cared for. James, Japhet, Sammy and the team in the laundry also joining me in thanking you for appreciating their work, so our warmest thanks from the whole team for coming to stay, Kind regards, Steve

Angama is a truly magical place with stunning views, fantastic staff and guides and luxurious accommodation. The food is excellent and the service of all the staff is absolutely superb with nothing being too much trouble. George, our camp manager was really professional and also very personable. He would come and visit us a dinner most evenings to ask about our day and if he could do anything. Our guide, Ekai, had eyes everywhere spotting game from a great distance. He was himself great fun and our family had a great time with him with many funny moments. He respected the wildlife and would take care not to frighten the animals especially the cheetah mum and her cubs. Well done him as many other guides from other camps would have stressed her out while she was trying to protect her babies. He was so enthusiastic about finding all game which made us all excited.

During our stay we experienced the bush barbecue which was in a magical setting with so much food. On another evening we watched the Masai dancing round the Boma whilst drinking cocktails and eating tasty canapés. We experienced the Out of Africa experience which involved having drinks and nibbles on the famous Out of Africa rock.
To finish our stay we were treated to a delicious lunch in the Shamba which is where Angama grow their own fruit and veg. Absolutely brilliant.

We had a chance to look round the Angama mobile camp down in the Mara itself. It is very luxurious and you wint want for anything. Hope to stay a night there sometime.

Can’t recommend Angama enough. You will not be disappointed and we will certainly be going back!,

Dear Trek.
Thank you for writing, your first time on Tripadvisor! I'm sure they give you points or something to encourage you to keep going ;) We really enjoyed reading your feedback, and have shared it with the team - which has got Ekai into something of a spotting game with the rest of the guides, and Ibrahim and his team at ASC asking when you will be coming back? With our warmest thanks for coming to stay, and letting us spoilt you so. Best regards, Steve

We cannot say enough great things about Angama! From the photos, we expected to have incredible views (which did not disappoint!), but we did not expect the caliber of service we received. From our wonderful and very knowledgeable guide, Jeremy, to our lovely and attentive butler, Terry, everyone we met at Angama surpassed expectations. They taught us so much, but were also so warm and welcoming. They went above and beyond to make every day of our honeymoon with them special and really gave us the royal treatment.
I don't think any accommodation can top a hot air balloon ride over the Mara, followed by an elaborate champagne brunch, then a private safari where we saw all big 5, then a special moment with Maasai tribe, followed by an open air massage and concluding with a romantic meal - and that was just one day of our stay here! We didn't want to leave!!
On top of the great food, service and atmosphere, one thing that really made us happy to stay at Angama was the leadership. Many of the team members told us how great the leadership team is with soliciting feedback and implementing suggestions, promoting from within and staying competitive with benefits. We were truly proud to patronize an establishment that properly rewards the people who made our stay so amazing.
Thank you Angama team - we hope we can see you again for an anniversary trip!!

Dear Molly,
Thank you for taking the time to write, and indeed it was a pleasure to meet you both personally on your last morning at the lodge. It's not often we get compliments for our leadership, but there's really no secret to building a welcoming culture in hospitality - it starts with looking after the team. Wishing you a long and happy marriage, and thank you again for coming to stay. Best, Steve

Staying at Angama was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. The luxury accommodations and stunning location were only part of why it was so great here. The staff is what really sets Angama apart. The experience and kindness of our guide Moses was fantastic. Photographer Robert captured the essence of this amazing journey. The photography tips I will take with me will last a lifetime. Adlight was intuitive and knew how to make our stay even more enjoyable. Angama provided such a unique experience that will remain in my heart and memories.

This is the most incredible place for a wide variety of reasons. The location is unrivalled and views unbelievable. There is a museum of African maps and culture, a wonderful photographic studio (we had a wonderful excursion with experts), a forest candle lit bbq (which was unique), a cultural walk with Masai and beading with the Masai mamas. The overall design is stunning. Food incredible. All of this in addition to any safaris organised. Wonderful staff from management down. Kenyan people are the best!

Dear Suzanne,
Thank you for taking the time to write, and share your experience at Angama Mara.
We are all glad that you enjoyed your stay so much, and had the opportunity to enjoy all that the lodge offers, above and beyond the traditional safari experience. Kenyans do indeed have an innate sense for hospitality, and are generous, warm & joyful by nature.
Thanks again for this lovely review, and hope to welcome you to our new property in Amboseli once it's open.
Best, Steve

The rooms were well appointed with spectacular views. Everywhere you went was gorgeous.

Elly, our guide, was amazing. He liked to start early and run long. He has over 10 years experience and knew a lot about the great migration, the animals, and the birds. He paid attention to what we saw and focused on filling in anything we missed - becoming obsessed with getting us to see black rhinos (successful on the last night).

Diana, our butler, was exceptional. Her service was fantastic and she was extremely friendly. We took advantage of some of the remote meal options and she had to lug our food up to a 1/4 mile to be ready when we got there. Her champagne opening with wet hands was entertaining :-).

Sammy, our Photographer, was so much fun. He spent most of a day with us and spent hours teaching my wife how to take pictures like a professional. She was so impressed. She went back the next day so that he could show her how to edit them. Her only complaint for the trip was she wished we had gotten Sammy on the first day of our trip instead of the 6th. PS - besides my feeble efforts, Sammy did not fall out of the helicopter :-).

Celine, aka Bone Breaker, gave an excellent deep tissue massage. She did not live up to her reputation as none of my bones were broken :-).

We did the Hot AIr Balloon excursion. These are large balloons holding 14-16 people. They appeared to lift off at sunrise every day we were there. This is a major organization, managing 4-5 balloons at a time very efficiently.

We also did the helicopter excursion to see the elephant project. This allows you to see so much more. Mark, our pilot, was excellent.

The manager of our side of Angama was George. He was very engaging morning and night. We made lots of changes during our stay and he made them all happen seamlessly. Bring a set of headphones as George can talk a lot - just kidding George :-). For a good story ask George about getting lost and ending up in Tanzania :-)

Lastly, my wife's Dad had died recently and she almost did not want to go on the trip. When we told George, he set up a tree planting to plant a tree in his name. There was a short ceremony attended by all of our favorite staff. It was quite emotional. We are planning a trip back to plant a 2nd tree for her Mom when the time comes.

Room tip: Each villa is private and has excellent views. I suspect all villas are exceptional.

Dear Steve,
On behalf of the team, I can't thank you enough for taking the time to share your experience at Angama Mara. We were delighted to hear that your stay exceeded your family's expectations, and in particular, that some of Angama Mara's rising stars made such an impact: Elly, Diana, Sammy - and equally that George was able to keep you entertained, looked after, and to seamlessly manage the changes to your program. I'm sorry for the loss of your father-in-law, and I promise to keep the elephants out of the garden - sometimes they are a little miffed not to be invited to the ceremony.
Thanks again for travelling across the world to join us in Maasailand, and allowing the team to share the beautiful Mara with you. With my best wishes, Steve
