We visited Angama Mara and it was a great place to rest and relax. Getting there up the very steep hill was an adventure on its own. The views of part of the Mara triangle is amazing.
The welcome wow, thats a welcome. Camp manager, your butler, room steward all on hand to welcome you in.
Very tastefully decorated borrowing heavily on the South African private game lodges concept. The lodge was quite full, not much in terms of covid compliance but we were assured the staff are all tested regularly.
The food was amazing. In spite of my partner being vegetarian they really were able to churn out some fabulous salads, pasta and curries. The rib eye steak...wow, even the Grill house in Sandton would be proud.
The tent is well spaced and adequately furnished. It does get extremely hot during the day (because of the canvas roof) and the fan (provided power behaves) does help.
Shower and views are great.
But what makes angama is the added activities. The Out of Africa site (though they cancelled my surprise picnic lunch at the last minute) is worth checking out. Do a picnic breakfast or lunch if you can. The sundowner is something you must do. The location and the gin & tonics are worth it.
Great place to be. Special mention to Wiki and Josphat for looking after us.
If you are going to visit try go off peak season, less crowding better weather and you get to enjoy the luxuries of the camp.
Sadly and (through no fault at all to Angama) the wildlife viewing in the triangle is very disappointing.
