We stayed at SIAU the first week of June 2023.
Overall it’s a beautiful hotel in an lovely location. The staff are friendly and try to be accommodating.
However, we did experience some issues:
On arrival the reception desk told us we were “very very early and the room wasn’t ready” – we were early but that was out of our hands as it was all booked through TUI so the transfer from the airport and the flight times was dictated by TUI. I think the hotel should have known this and ensure that if you are arriving early your room should be ready. Or at the least a room should be made available for you to change etc. We were made to feel we were inconveniencing the hotel for being early – not a great start and definitely not what I would expect from a 5 star hotel. Our room was made available about 1.5 hours after we arrived. We were on our honeymoon and we came back to the room to strawberries and a bottle of bubbly and that’s a nice touch, thank you.
House-keeping – we had to continually contact reception about coffee not being replaced daily in our room. One day all the towels had been taken but no clean ones left. By the end of our 7 day stay there were 8 dirty glasses waiting to be collected from the room, why? My husband had to actually remove some himself and leave them outside of the room earlier in the week. We did request and iron and ironing board which was made available to us so thank you for that. The room was cleaned adequately daily. I do think that if reception were told almost daily that we had no coffee this should have been fed back to the supervisor who should have gone round after cleaning to ensure everything was as you would expect it to be.
The restaurants - On the first morning there we noticed that the hot buffet breakfast was cold / luke warm at best. In the evening once again the hot buffet evening dishes were all cold. We did feed this back and Robby spoke with us explaining that it is a fine line between food being over cooked and the right temperature. Agreed but the hot plates or lights obviously do not work properly. The plates are cold so you are putting luke warm food on cold plates. We noticed staff picking up the dishes on the hot plates with bear hands so if you can do that the dishes are obviously cold. We noticed a manager in the restaurant on the last few nights we were there. He appeared to be surveying what was going on but other than turning puddings round so that they all faced the same way he didn’t do much else. Maybe a good idea to actually try a plate of food from the “hot” buffet? On our last day we were leaving at 7.30am so we asked if we could get some breakfast before the restaurant opened at 8am. This was agreed so at 7am we went down to the restaurant and saw that all the hot buffet food was already out, this was one hour before it opened. No wonder it is all cold if it’s sat there for over an hour before they open.
We did eat at Iachimo, the Japanese restaurant, one night and that was great. Shout out to Eduardo who was a joy and gave us lots of information and advice about the food. The chefs are amazing and the cheesecake was fantastic.
The lunchtime food from the Pool Bar and the main lunch restaurant was by far much better and hotter than the main breakfast and evening meal restaurants.
We think it should not be rocket science to get food out hot?
There is a construction site next to the hotel which is unsightly but there is no noise during the summer period (we’re told). It was quiet when we were there.
I would say that when that hotel opens it will affect the whole area, the beach will be busier and although we were told it was going to be adults only it is going to a vast increase in footfall in the local area, restaurants etc.
We did enjoy most of the entertainment provided by the hotel. The cocktails were great, the bar is a lovely area, the pool is nice and there was plenty of sunbeds to chose from.
So to sum up, lovely hotel, great location, helpful friendly staff but the “hot” food although good needs sorting out please.
